Loma is much better than he was vs Salido in his 1st professional fight
You cant say hes better if he is ducking a Salido rematch, im tired of spewing this shyt; if I could reach through the screen and choke u I would:mindblown:

You same Nikkas said the same thing about Manny and JMM, but Manny got his ass whooped every time whether JMM was in his prime or near 40 years old, cut that out, if Loma was a real man and fighter hed except pennies to get his victory back; I see that as a mental weakness, and the mental aspect is the most important aspect in the ring, that supercedes, power , speed and all of that....Manny wanted his juice from JMM and still wants that; why is Loma facing nikkas that been inactive for a year acting like he's doing something

Former USC football player Gerald Washington has emerged as the replacement opponent for World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder on Feb. 25 in Birmingham, Ala.

A Premier Boxing Champions official told The Times a deal was struck late Sunday with Washington (18-0-1, 12 knockouts) to substitute for Poland’s Andrzej Wawrzyk (33-1, 19 KOs), who tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance and was pulled from the Fox-televised main event.

Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) previously had a 2016 bout against Russia’s Alexander Povetkin scrapped by Povetkin’s positive test for Meldonium. Wilder then suffered a biceps injury in a summer victory over Riverside’s Chris Arreola, and now returns to his hometown Legacy Arena for this bout.

“This is a good fight, and a better fight now with Washington than it was with Wawrzyk,” fight promoter Lou DiBella said. “Gerald Washington is an imposing, strong cat who’s fought in Alabama before, has a big mouth and is a well-spoken kid.”

A Navy veteran, the 6-foot-6 Washington, 34, was a Pete Carroll-Steve Sarkisian recruit and 2007-08 tight end/defensive end at USC, later landing practice-squad spots with the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks before turning to boxing in 2012 and winning an April bout against former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers at StubHub Center.

Wilder has said he’s aiming for a later 2017 bout against the winner of the April 29 Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko bout at Wembley Stadium in London.

panthers might take him...hes been mock to the team all year.....but I just hope breh injury don't slow him down too much.

people say he got stopped by bama but he facing 8 man fronts with no qb/pass threat but still going off.:yeshrug:
That's if he gets past the Jets

Felix Verdejo, save that he doesn't lose in February, is the highest ranked IBF challenger for Easter's belt. I could see AB steering Easter towards a Verdejo fight, and Garcia being saved for AB at 140.

Easter vs Verdejo is a bigger money fight and possibly will be mandated in 2017 since IBF Champs are supposed to face their mandatory every 9 months.
All signs point to Verdejo facing Flanagan for the WBO title in June

I would love for an About Billions card on CBS showing:

Main Event: Adrien Broner vs Mikey Garcia
Co Main Event: Robert Easter Jr vs Felix Verdejo
Opener: Rau'Shee Warren vs Juan Carlos Payano 3 fight

But that's probably asking too much in this era of Boxing:snoop:

No Salido-Lomachenko rematch any time soon; Arum says Salido “Chickened Out!”
James Slater - January 4, 2017 96 Comments

1-013_Vasyl_Lomachenko_re-signs.jpg

It seems P-4-P star and reigning WBO super-featherweight champ Vasyl Lomachenko got overly hopeful, even jumped the gun, when he recently stated how his next fight would be a return meeting with Orlando Salido. According to Top Rank boss and Lomachenko promoter Bob Arum, Mexican warrior Salido “Chickened Out” of a rematch.

Speaking with RingTV.com, Arum said Salido – the only man to have beaten Lomachenko as a pro – asked for “crazy money.”

“Orlando Salido chickened out. It’s the only way to say it,” Arum told the website of The Bible of Boxing yesterday. “He asked for crazy money. We agreed to the crazy money. And then he says ‘No.’ He’d just as soon not take the fight. Why? Because he knows he can’t beat [Lomachenko]. It was a fluke the first time. So there’s no other way to paint it. Orlando Salido chickened out of the fight because whatever his demands were, we met those financial demands and then he let us know he’s not interested in the fight.”

Of course there are always two sides to a story and many fans will likely find it tough accepting Salido, one of the toughest, bravest fighters around today, would “chicken out” of a fight with anyone. And, in response to Arum’s claims, Salido’s manager Sean Gibbons used the word “ludicrous.”

“Using Orlando’s name and chicken in the same sentence – that’s ludicrous,” Gibbons shot back to Ring. “We had good talks with Bob. I thought we had come to some kind of agreement. It just didn’t seem to work. Orlando wants to give the fans the fights they want. And I don’t hear any fans clamouring for Salido-Lomachenko.”

Gibbons said that Salido grabbed him and asked him, ‘Why do I want to fight a guy in Lomachenko who I know is going to run, grab and hold when I can go Mexican-to-Mexican with Francisco Vargas and give the people what they really want to see.”

The truth is in between; why is Loma so insistent on fighting Salido now when Salido was willing to run it back instantly.....Salido doesnt have to bend when team loma wants he won....He can play the sideline til years end let Loma get a body or 2 more then even make more money.....This Chess

On This Day: Wilfred Benitez looks sensational while defeating Roberto Duran

We didn’t know it then but on January 30, 1982, Wilfred Benitez turned in his final great performance

Benitez-v-Duran1.jpg

DATE: January 30, 1982

LOCATION
: Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV

WEIGHTS/RECORDS
: Wilfred Benitez (152 1/4lbs), 43-1-1. Roberto Duran (152 1/2lbs), 74-2.

TITLES/SCHEDULE
: WBC light-middleweight title/15 rounds

WHAT HAPPENED
: Duran was still haunted by his infamous ‘No Mas’ surrender to Sugar Ray Leonard from 18 months before, while Benitez – still only 23 – was three years removed from his loss to the American superstar. The Puerto Rican was a defensive wizard, and was expected to display elusive tactics against the pressure of Duran. Instead, though, he went toe-to-toe with Duran, and defeated the Panamanian at his own game.

“I wanted to beat him at his fight, to show him I was the champion,” Benitez explained afterwards.

The scores were close in the champion’s favour – 145-141, 144-141, 143-142 – but the vast majority of observers felt that Benitez dominated. Mickey Duff, the British promoter, scored Benitez the victor by eight points whereas Duran was only given two rounds by legendary American trainer, Eddie Futch.

It was expected that Duran – inferior in strength and speed – would retire after the fight. “I wanted to put more pressure on him but my body wouldn’t let me,” said Roberto while explaining his performance.

RESULT:
Benitez w pts 15 Duran.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
: Benitez was thought to be at his prime but it turned out to be his last great performance. In December 1982, he was comprehensively beaten by Thomas Hearns in a disappointing bout. Losses over the next few years to Mustafa Hamsho, Davey Moore and Matthew Hilton followed before his career, and form, plummeted alarmingly. By the time he eventually retired in 1990, aged just 32, he was badly damaged by boxing… READ

THE TRAGEDY OF WILFRED BENITEZ

Duran, meanwhile, decided not to retire. A loss to Kirkland Laing in 1982 appeared to confirm his slump but he would rebound to batter Davey Moore in 1983 for the WBA light-middleweight title and then (eventually) rebound from a horror loss to Hearns to stun WBC middleweight champion Iran Barkley in 1989. He fought on, with mixed results, until 2001… DURAN’S FINEST HOUR

Orlando Salido needs Loma more than Loma needs him:sas1:

Loma is the one who's Champion and gets the bigger paydays. He wanted to run it back to "right his wrong", but if Salido wants to not accept terms and run to a Vargas fight (:mjlol: fight is dead now:mjlol:), then PBL will just continue his P4P run without him while Salido thinks back about how stupid he was to turn down Loma's offer to fight:manny:

JULIAN WILLIAMS BREAKS HIS SILENCE EXCLUSIVELY ON BOXINGTALK

By G. Leon

GL: What's the latest and greatest J-Rock? What have you been up to since things didn't go your way versus Jermall Charlo?

"I've just been cooling out, I've done a little bit of training, but for the most part I'm taking it easy and getting ready for the next date."

GL: What went wrong against Charlo? What needs to be improved on moving forward?

Julian Williams: "Overall I have to be more patient. I don't think it's really anything technical, I think it has to do with being more patient."

GL: Was there anything about Charlo that surprised you or caught you off guard?

JW: "Nothing."

GL: It was a punch that you never saw coming that ended the fight. You're a student of the game so I'm sure you've seen the fight on tape. When you watch the fight what do you see? What mistakes need to be improved on other than just being more patient?

JW: "It wasn't a mistake, I think I just overshot a punch, but it came from being anxious and not being patient. Going back and watching the fight, I felt the same way I felt right after the fight had ended. I felt like I was completely dominating the rounds, so even with the knockdown I thought I had the edge. I just got a little bit greedy because he was easy to hit. I was outpointing him definitely, and I got a little bit greedy and he caught me."

GL: I'm sure you prepared for a lot of things going into that fight, but getting drop with a jab wasn't among them. His jab seemed to catch you off guard early and the knockdown he scored with it seemed to take your legs away a bit.

JW: "Yeah it did, but he jabbed in between my jab, but it was a good shot."

GL: You said you're waiting on the next date. When are you hoping your next fight takes place?

JW: "As soon as possible, that's when I want to get back in there. I don't have a set date yet, but I want to get back in there as soon as possible."

GL: Do you want your next fight to take place against another top level guy? Would you prefer a tune-up instead?

JW: "It's whatever my team wants. I'm down for anything, I've always wanted to fight the best competition and I still want to fight the best competition."

GL: Prior to the Charlo fight you looked borderline invincible and a lot of guys were not in a rush to fight you. Now the opposite might be the case because you showed vulnerability and guys might start to look at you as a guy who doesn't takw the best punch. Is that what you're hoping for in terms of how the rest of the top junior middles now view you?

JW: "I really don't care about that kind of stuff, I care about working out my own mistakes and correcting my own flaws. Any slight bit of vulnerability is going to make guys want to fight me now because this is the era we're in. It's an era of cowards."

GL: The manner in which fighters handle their first professional loss varies, how did you handle it?

JW: "Of course I was upset, I'm still upset, but it's something I've got to learn to live with right now. It's not the end of the world, plenty of guys have lost their first world title shot and then gone on to do great things in the ring. I'm going to be one of those guys."

GL: Was Jermall better than you expected?

JW: "No. I always knew he could fight, I always knew he was a good puncher and a strong fighter. He was exactly who I thought he was."

GL: After the knockdown you had a few good rounds in a row, you were taking control of the fight and you couldn't miss him with the right hand...

JW: (cutting in) "And then I got a little bit greedy man."

GL: You were reaching on the sequence of punches that ended the fight, is that something you need to work on?

JW: "Yeah, of course, that's a technical flaw I have to correct but that comes from being greedy and not being patient."

GL: Closing thoughts?

JW: "I ain't holding my head down, I ain't depressed, I ain't on suicide watch, I' good. I'm just, right now the hardest part is waiting to get back."
