dictatorships and authoritarian states don't view sports as simply a competition they view it as proving they are superior to other countries in general. Believe me I know it, my country is also kinda authoritarian...
Situation is only worse in Russia, Ukraine or Kazakhstan.
(Of course this not the view of all people in these countries but what their governments communicate lowkey or openly --> winning a sport competition = you are superior overall.)

Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Daniel Jacobs skips same-day weigh-ins, can’t win IBF title
Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) will have one less belt he can win from Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. GGG holds the WBC, WBA, and IBF middleweight titles (as well as the IBO, which is really minor), but Jacobs is no longer eligible to take the IBF one.
As is the annoyance when dealing with boxing’s sanctioning bodies, there are different rules to adhere to for things such as weight cutting. For instance, the WBC has 30-day weigh-ins, where f!ghters cannot be 10% above the contracted weight, followed by the 7-day weigh-ins, where that number is reduced to 5%. That process went off without a hitch for both men, with GGG weighing in at 159.6 lbs on Friday, while Jacobs came in at 159.8.
It was a different story on Saturday. While Golovkin weighed 169.6 pounds this morning as part of the IBF same-day rules, Jacobs skipped it altogether. ESPN’s Dan Rafael explains:
"Golovkin is defending his IBF title, however Jacobs cannot acquire the title with a victory because he did not participate in the required IBF same-day weigh-in," IBF championships chairman Lindsey Tucker said.
Unlike the other sanctioning organizations, the IBF requires f!ghters participating in title f!ghts to participate in a weight check the morning of the f!ght at which they cannot be more than 10 pounds heavier than the weight limit of the f!ght. The other organizations have no weight limit following the official athletic commission weigh-in the day before the bout.
On the plus side for Jacobs, who can still win GGG’s other titles, he’s spared paying the IBF sanctioning fee. For what it’s worth, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler doesn’t seem too bothered by this news, simply saying, "Gennady is very excited to defend all of his titles against Daniel Jacobs in this matchup of the two best middleweights in the world.”
