Golovkin-Jacobs does 170,000 buys on PPV

K2 promoter Tom Loeffler tells ESPN, now that the numbers have all trickled in, that Gennady Golovkin’s second PPV appearance against Daniel Jacobs on March 18 sold roughly 170,000 PPVs. That represents a modest increase from Golovkin’s PPV debut where he took on David Lemiuex in October 2015 in a fight that sold about 153,000 PPVs.

that's not that good... I mean that 17k difference is probably due to Jacobs being simply a more attractive opponent/matchup than Lemieux was so that mean that HBO during that one and a half year period between the two fights couldn't really raise Golovkin's profile/awareness.
Interesting though... As much as they stand behind him and as much as the media and the average fans seem to like him...
two consequences from this imo...

1: PPV really is a dying concept and they should just let it go
2: Golovkin probably hit his ceiling already

Schaefer Agrees With De La Hoya's Position on Golovkin June Fight -

"I have to agree with Oscar on this one, because the fact is and I just said this before, you need to know how to promote pay-per-view. You can not promote a big pay-per-view with a month or two of time. If Triple G is going to fight in June in Kazakhstan, by the time he's done and heals, you're going to have two months to promote a September pay-per-view - and that's not how you maximize pay-per-view revenue," Schaefer explained to BoxingScene.com.

"Ideally you want a minimum of three months to promote a pay-per-view. If they could sit down this week or next week, and at least agree on terms, and then start putting together a pay-per-view promotion for September. Obviously they can't start until Canelo wins, but once the Cinco De Mayo is over."

"If they could put something together that is contingent on Canelo winning, then they can start that night in Vegas. That night they can start the pay-per-view promotion with the unveiling of a video, of a TV spot. Imagine if you have May, June, July, August - four and a half months, all of the stuff that you can do - that's how you promote pay-per-view."

"If Golovkin wants to go and fight in Kazakhstan, because of the World Expo and other reasons.. the Kazakhstan government is a sponsor of Golovkin and it's important to him.. but don't go and blame Canelo and Oscar, in this particular case, if the fight doesn't happen. The ones to blame are Golovkin and [promoter Tom] Loeffler. And this is not a case of kissing up to Oscar or kissing up to Golovkin - I want to keep it real and that is the truth."

Abel Sanchez: Ward Will Beat Kovalev, It Won't Be ControversialBy Edward ChaykovskyA few months ago, veteran trainer Abel Sanchez was very vocal with his belief that Sergey Kovalev did more than enough to defeat Andre Ward last November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.Sanchez, best known as the trainer of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, was ringside for the fight and watched Ward get off the floor in the second round to win a twelve round unanimous decision with three cards of 114-113 from the judges.Ward gave Kovalev his first career defeat and captured the WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight belts. The controversy continues to rage on overwhich fighter actually deserved to win that night.Sanchez felt it was a clear victory for Kovalev by a few rounds. Sanchez had trained Kovalev in the early part of his career. The Russian boxer eventually parted ways with him and hooked up the man who led him to the light heavyweight crown, John David Jackson of Florida."I thought Kovalev won, I thought Kovalev won by at least a couple of rounds and I said it after the fight. I thought it was the kind of fight that I didn’t want to see. The first six rounds were okay but the last six rounds were a wrestling match. You shouldn’t be able to win a fight by wrestling, this is not wrestling, it’s boxing. That’s how Andre fights and it’s not a pleasing style but for some reason he convinced the judges and they gave it to him, but I don’t think he won the fight," Sanchez toldOn The Ropes Boxing Radio. There was an immediate rematch clause, which Kovalev exercised. Bothsides are in talks for a potential date of June 17th, also in Las Vegas. While Sanchez was confident that Kovalev would win the first fight, and believes he did, he's picking Ward to come back better the second time around to win the rematch - and this time he believes there will be no questions lingering in the aftermath."That's a very difficult fight for both guys, but I think Andre with his brain trust, with the coach that he has, will be able to adapt a little better and will be able to change what he needs to chance and add the things that he needs to add - to beat Kovalev and get the decision, and this time the decision will not be controversial," Sanchez told BaylorIC Worldwide-TV

Roach: I've Changed My Mind, Golovkin CAN'T Beat Andre Ward!

By Radio Rahim

Los Angeles - For quite some time, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach was predicting very big things for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs).

Roach made some bold predictions that Golovkin was capable of going to 168 and cleaning out the division, and even said GGG could rise all the way up to light heavyweight to beat unified champion Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs).

But after Golovkin's two most recent performances, Roach admits that his opinion has changed - and he no longer believes Golovkin is capable of beating Ward.

ward-golovkin_8.jpg

According to Roach, Golovkin's ability to deal with a good boxer was exposed two weeks ago, when he won a tough twelve round decision over Daniel Jacobs at New York's Madison Square Garden.

And Roach views Ward a being a better boxer than Jacobs.

While Roach is still confident that Golovkin can beat Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, he believes Golovkin' team will keep him away from super middleweights with good boxing ability.

"He's still one of the best fighters in the world today. I thought at one time he could move up to light heavyweight and beat Ward. Ward is a very good boxer and maybe a better boxer than Triple G's last [opponent] is - I've changed my mind on that one a little bit now, because I like the boxer and [Golovkin] was exposed, he does have trouble with people who box and so forth," Roach explained to BoxingScene.com.

"They ask me what about Canelo, and I say that 'Canelo is not a boxer though.' He's a puncher and I say Triple G is too big and strong for him. I think Triple G will get to him sooner than he can get to Triple G. But, that's just my opinion though. I don't think he will go up right now to fight very good boxers, because he was exposed a little bit with a boxer fighting from the southpaw stance."

all this was really said by him or those second and third posts are just parody? :pachaha:

I don't know:yeshrug:

I just know it's funny that Brook and his fanbase, on their own, have made the whole GGG ordeal into a running joke to everyone instead of the ":obama:" moment that it was previously being held at, bc of their insistence to act as if they won or had GGG on the ropes barely hanging on before it was stopped:heh:

I feel vindicated:smugbiden:
