Man Jeff lacy was that dude to me. I even had the hand wraps he endorsed from everlast. His fall from grace saddened me so much. The beat down he got from calzaghe was bad enough to watch then in his comeback fight he tears his whole shoulder out. That basically ended his career. Left hook was gone and got too musclebound and slow. It broke my heart to watch him in those FNF fights then getting whooped by taylor and past prime jones smh. I really hope its not for money that he's coming back

yeah, Lacy was that dude to me too.....but like most power punchers he was overhyped. he couldve been a better fighter if he wouldve improved his boxing skills. he is another guy I always thought needed a different professional trainer. Birmingham is one of those coaches in boxing and other sports alike that is good and can get you to a certain level but no further. Lacy's lack of technical ability really was the end of him once his level of opposition increased.

almost took your first post serious....but now I see it was a full time troll move.

seriously. I dont go by opposition much, moreso the eye test as far as skill and the stylistic matchup. the fight will never happen but if I did, I will be here to take all bets on Broner.

I like Broner and I think he is a potentially great fighter ala Mayweather. Broner however has more technical flaws than Floyd did at the same stage. Tactical flaws that can be exploited. Crawford look the part of Pernell Whitaker to me.

Keep in mind when I picked Shane to beat Oscar....people said he didnt fight anyone. When I picked Winky to beat Shane people said the only good guys he fought he lost to. When Taylor beat Bernard he hadnt fought anybody either. Today is not like it used to be years ago. Its more about opportunity to fight the best.

All Crawford needs is opportunity. He could collect all the belts at 135 but as I said...none of those guys will fight a guy like him when they can fight more lucrative opportunities against much lesser threats.

Mixed feelings about a possible Stevenson-Cloud match. If Team Stevenson feels confident they can beat Cloud then cool. I think its too dangerous a match when he has better possibilities. At the same time, those fights are just that...possibilities. The best fights for him are Ward, Hopkins, and Cloud in that order.

As you guys should know, I am not a big Ward fan. I do respect him and his skillset though. I like him enough to watch him every now and then depending on the opponent. At the same time, he gotta cut some of this bullshyt out. Yeah, Dawson cant draw flies to shyt....but Stevenson in Canada is a different story. A fight in Canada is bigger for all parties than a fight in Oakland. Also....step out of your fukking comfort zone man. You cant keep fighting LHWs at 168. Go up and take the title....you can stay at 168 if you want afterwards. Stevenson really still a SMW anyway. Why not fight for the LHW title?

When it comes to Cloud....the boy brings it. I met the dude when he was like 4-0 and I said this dude has talent to be world class...and he hasnt disappointed me at all. This fight is guaranteed fireworks...from that standpoint...it makes sense. I would pick Cloud in that fight...especially if he works the body. I need to see more from Stevenson than that basic 1-2 shyt that Dawson somehow got caught with after dude tried the same combo at least twice before he landed it. :snoop:

jeff in his early fights was a boxer puncher..he did show promise with technical ability but yeah like every power puncher he fell in love with his power. save for a surprisingly close shave with omar sheika of all fighters (i originally chalked that up to an off night) no one took advantage of that until joe c did beat him up..i still get mad thinking about that fight:wtb:

he did have some boxing ability...but never improved upon it. I really had high hopes for him. loved his title winning effort against Vanderpool. he became strictly an offensive fighter though with poor defense and zero counter punching ability. he was basically a juggernaut.

as with most fighters today....he faced too many soft touches or guys that were tailor made for him instead of guys that could exploit his weaknesses so that he could further improve on them. Robin Reid was a good fight but Reid just didnt have it by that time. Its like Lacy went from fighting all guys that were tailor made for him right to Calzaghe, a guy that was all wrong for him. had he been in more competitive fights, he wouldnt have been beaten so lopsided by Joe.

I fukks with this thread heavy, but since it's so much shyt being said about so many different things I'll just spit random shyt about the topics from the last couple pages.

- Lacy was good and not really overrated to me. It's just his ceiling wasn't as high as people wanted it to be. He's a good example of a young American fighter making the most out of his opportunity. Dude had exciting fights and wanted to fight the best. He never improved on his boxing skills and his punching regressed because of it. He stopped using his jab as often and he started cuffing with his shots a lot more so his punches weren't having the maximum effect.

- Crawford looks like he has the goods. The Prescott win was nice, but it's not like we haven't seen dude get outboxed before. A Crawford/Beltran fight would be good. Beltran always brings it and has a name. I don't see the Sweet Pea comparisons though. Moreno resembles Sweet Pea's style moreso than Crawford imo.

- It's easy to see that Arum has his favorites, but he's right about Garcia needing to move up and fight Martinez. It's a good fight and I don't think he wants another Rios situation where a guy that obviously needs to move up doesn't and ends up stagnating his progress.

- In retrospect Ward should have fought Bute. I get the whole Bute needed to prove himself against a top 5 168lber first (Froch, Kessler), but why give nikkas you already beat a chance to take some shine away from you. Froch's career went on an upswing after the Ward loss. Then Ward beats a drained Dawson only for a fringe contender in Stevenson to later come by and look more impressive doing it at Dawson's best weight. Bottom line Ward with all his talent and skills isn't the best business man when it comes to progressing his career. Dude isn't some superstar that puts asses in seats, yet operates like he is and tries to gain every advantage in fights only to see it turn against him later down the road. :snoop:

Good points breh....let me say that when I used the term overhyped it doesnt necessarily mean the same thing as overrated to me. I think his ceiling couldve been higher had he worked on the aforementioned boxing skills. When I say overhyped...I mean that Lacy could continue to KO certain opponents with particular styles and skill level all day...but by doing that the teams and networks are going to force feed him those fights until there is no one left. Then your forced to exit stage left if you get beat so dominantly. Lacy had a decent jab and good footwork early in his career and iirc he had a decent reach for a shorter fighter.

Crawford looks like he has done nothing but watch Whitaker tapes to me. The way he stands close to his opponent and fights while making them miss. He isnt as surgical with the jab like Pete was and who knows how he will deal with a highly skilled rangy fighter who fights tall. I like him though and think he is the future....but waiting around for those clowns at 135 to fight him would be a mistake. Those guys dont even want to fight Broner...who can offer them a nice payday.

Ward shouldve fought Bute, but I am sure when it was brought to him...they said it makes more sense in Canada...and he just aint with that. He'd better cut that shyt out quick though....or he will get frozen out. Makes me wonder why he gave up that WBC belt. Ward's career is pretty much losing momentum by the day because he thinks he is a young Roy Jones....but he is not.

Word on the digital streets is that Canelo is getting 12 million.

Basically thats what we in here have been saying he would get....long before the fight was signed. Which is why some of us were surprised that they didnt pursue the Cotto fight hard....because he couldve netted over $20 mil in 2 fights. It basically came down to Floyd being desperate for an opponent to keep Showtime happy.

People say well even if he loses to Floyd the Cotto fight is still there. Yeah...but not the same effect. First it depends on how good Cotto looks in his next fight...and if Canelo looks like Guerrero then he would only get about 1/2 for fighting Cotto next year as opposed to what he wouldve gotten this year. Then again...victories arent guaranteed and perhaps after analyzing both of their fights with Trout...his team didnt want to gamble with Cotto.....who still is technically savvy.

i agree, personally i felt if he would've fought cotto first and beaten him, he could end up making around 15 mil vs floyd on cinco de mayo weekend of next year. but got damn, showtime and gbp were in no wait to make this fight happen now.

Its pretty much Khans fault...he beats Peterson N Garcia N he's first in line for Floyd N makes errybody that UK money

Guerrero then has time for at least one more quality win at WW building up his name for Floyd in Sept

Meanwhile Canelo could a fought Trout then Cotto building up Mayday 2014

Canelo is going to be fine win or lose. He lost to Floyd. Everyone loses to Floyd. No one is getting any younger and everyone wants that guap. They will get it in spades with this fight.
