didnt I say this the other day? I knew this fight would be made...it makes so much sense. what it says for B-Hop is, somehow this Stevenson fight gets made...which it was supposed to anyway. As soon as that ref waived off Dawson...B-Hop was on the phone.

I really dont think the Murat fight comes off.

IMO....Stevenson needs to stay away from B-Hop.
You're right, I was gonna use the mention feature but it doesn't seem to work for certain posters :manny:
If I remember correctly, unification bouts trump mandatory bouts so Hopkins could still keep his belt and ignore Murat...but wait...

The Murat bout was straight out cancelled, Kovalev is fighting someone else,

...I'm not even sure IBF even has a #1 contender anymore :heh:

Just my thoughts on this weekend's fighters.

Like others here, I dont see Broner going back to 135 after this fight. It doesnt make sense. For what? To fight Arawaka - Figueroa? His departure was perfect because if he sets foot back in that ring at 135 and fights one of those guys..then leaves....Crawford will be viewed as a :duck: (just like Floyd-Casa or when he chose to fight Gatti but no other 140lber) Right now though, his timing is perfect because Crawford just getting on the map so its no :duck:

If Broner doesnt beat Paulie, then I will self-impose my own exile from this site for a week. I think Broner defends at 147 or looks for a great fight at 140.

I am such a Banks fan....I really hope he beats Mitchell but its such a dangerous fight because Banks is a small HW. He definitely has the boxing skill to take Mitchell out again. I just cant be sure.

Not really interested in the Bika fight...:ehh: especially with that bogus title in play.

exactly....I think B-Hop will be granted an exception. We have to watch closely...especially with mention of Cloud getting a shot at Stevenson. 175 is starting to spark some interest after the Dawson loss. Now you have B-Hop, Cleverly-Kovalev, Stevenson, Bute-Pascal, the only once beaten and action style of Cloud...and despite what people think...Dawson only needs one good win to be right back in the mix. B-Hop actually alluded to this a few weeks ago when he said the LHW division was about to heat up. The only crazy thing about all this is...Ward dont seem to want no parts of it.

because ward would a) not be the main draw at 175 or b) forced to fight out of oakland

He doesn't really have a choice now...what's he going to do?

-Rematch a guy he's already shut out/beat overwhelmingly convincingly? (Froch, Kessler, Bika, Abraham)

-Catch Andre Dirrell like a wild pokemon on the move for a fight that was supposed to happen years ago that Andre is :whoa: about?

-Guys like Stevenson, Bute and Edwin Rodriguez have moved up

-The way I see it, he has 3 logical opponents left at 168--Robert Stieglitz (not a bad fight at all IMO), Thomas Ooze (I'm not spelling that shyt out), and George "Leave-Me-Alone-James-DeGale" Groves...though I guess I should name James DeGale as well if I'm gonna namedrop Groves :manny:

You know what...at this point it really doesnt matter...especially if there is money in a Froch fight. Ward needs to stay active and needs to stake his claim as the best. Ward is a good fighter but I am gonna have to start saying that he lacks the desire to be great because at this time he should be fighting twice a year at least....once at 168 and once at 175. fukk a belt, he needs to show that he is the dominant guy at BOTH weights since theres nothing really at 168 and there is no ONE top guy at 175. Hell, a Ward-Cloud fight would be a good HBO scrap....but the dude dont want to fight at 175 really....at least he hasnt shown any interest yet. I would think he would love to get in with Stevenson.

Scott Quigg To Face William Prado, June 29 In Bolton - Boxing News

By Terence Dooley

Bury’s Scott Quigg will meet Brazil’s William Prado at the Bolton Arena on June 29th in a keep busy fight ahead of a possible tilt at the regular WBA Super bantamweight title later this year. Quigg, 25-0-1 (18) revealed the news during a conversation with Britishboxers.co.uk yesterday and is now fully focused on easing past his 23-3-1 (14) opponent.

“It is William Prado — I’m looking forward to the 29th,” said Quigg. “I’ll look him up, see what he’s about and these are the sort of opponents you learn from. It is going to be a good night.”

Prado does not travel well; his last two defeats came in Namibia and France — 12-round decision defeats against Paulus Ambunda and Jeremy Parodi respectively — and he will be up against it in Bolton.

However, the 29-year-old is adept at negotiating the full distance, so he will be comfortable if the scheduled 10-round bout goes into the later stages.

Quigg, 24, is taking part in his first in-ring action since last November’s sixth-round TKO over Rendall Munroe, which settled domestic supremacy here in the U.K.; he will be champing at the bit over the course of the next seven days after enduring a long stint of inactivity prior to making the move over to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sports.

So he finally gets an opponent for next weekend...

Argenis Mendez To Headline Four-Fight PPV, 8/23 in Vegas - Boxing News

By Jake Donovan

On the heels of his title win, Argenis Mendez is now prepared to headline his first pay-per-view event. The super featherweight titlist will make the first defense of his belt on August 23 in Las Vegas, against Canada-based Afghani boxer Arash Usmanee.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Mendez (21-2, 11KO) who became a champ after stopping Juan Carlos Salgado in the 4th round of their title fight rematch this past March. “I have big plans in store for the future, beginning with Usmanee.”

The bout headlines a four-fight independent pay-view card. Among the supporting cast will be at least one more alphabet hardware at stake, as Claudio Marrero faces Jesus Cuellar in an interim featherweight title fight.

The timing of the news is peculiar; it comes on the heels of Rances Barthelemy establishing himself as Mendez’ mandatory following a 2nd round knockout of Fahsai Sakkreerin in their title eliminator Friday night in Minneapolis. Barthelemy made his way to the title eliminator by scoring a controversial decision in a fight that many had Usmanee (20-1, 10KO) winning with room to spare.

Mendez is required to satisfy his mandatory obligation by December 9, but is permitted an optional defense. The Dominican’s handlers tried in vain to secure a unification bout, but hit dead ends at every turn. Takashi Miura is scheduled to face Sergio ‘Yeyo’ Thompson on August 17, while negotiations never advanced beyond talk for a showdown with Takashi Uchiyama. :why:

The most realistic option was a clash with Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez. That dream died once it was discovered that the Puerto Rican was being groomed for a potential clash with unbeaten Mikey Garcia, who plans to move up in weight after conceding his featherweight title on the scales prior to last weekend’s knockout win over Juan Manuel Lopez.

Anxious to squeeze in a title defense before being forced to lock in to a mandatory challenge later this year, Mendez’ handlers sought out the services of Usmanee.

“I think it’s a good challenge for Argenis,” believes Jose Nunez, who signed Mendez – a member of the 2004 Dominican Republic Olympic boxing team – in 2006. “Usmanee is a tough kid, a very good boxer. It’s no gimme for Argenis, but it’s what he needs to remain focused and at his best.”

Two more bouts on the card pit rising contenders against former champions.

Aspiring light heavyweight Isiah Thomas is slated to face ex-light heavyweight king Glen Johnson, who is coming off of a win in April in the Dominican Republic. The nation boasts a recent breakout star in Juan Carlos Payano, who climbed off the canvas to stop Jundy Maraon in seven rounds last Friday on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. The unbeaten bantamweight is being groomed for a showdown with former two-division titlist Roberto ‘La Araña’ Vazquez in a bout which – if finalized – could be for an interim bantamweight title.

Full details of the show are expected to be announced shortly, including a surprise on the promotional side of the event.

As for Mendez, he doesn’t want any surprises in his first title defense.

“All of my focus is on August 23. I’m not looking past that fight,” Mendez insists. “Barthelemy worked his way to the top, but he still has to go through me. After August 23, I’ll begin to work with my team on a game plan to beat him. Right now, it’s all about getting past (Usmanee).”
There are better opponents for him that were available, however, I REALLY RESPECT this move, Usmanee was robbed on FNF
