Morrell needs an impressive win. There's no better fighter than Callum Smith to give him the opportunities. If he doesn't I have to question how good he'll really be at 175. But honestly he hasn't had an easy touch since Agbeko(who only had 2 losses) and for 13 fights, he has fought better competition than probably 99% of fighters in boxing at the same point..or even with double the amount of fights. And he's never in a boring one. Props to him. He's what we need more of in boxing.
agreed..its actually crazy how he's looked so average at 175..only going up 1 division..hot rod boxed him up, benavidez outworked him but he made a fairly good impression since morrell scored the lone knockdown, then goes life and death with khataev where he gets dropped and got a gift..callum smith coming off his own FOTY..thats the opportunity..if he can't do it well i dont know what his actual window will be

It's a good point, his resume is great for a 13 fight pro career.

Hard to know exactly where Smith is at age 35, but looked great against Buatsi, so as you said, this is a great opponent for Morrell, Smith can bang, but more a boxer and selective, which for Morrell is his best type of opponent at 175 imo.

People underestimate 175, it's it can be extremely unforgiving as a weight class, especially if you're moving up, or going against punchers.

Morrell has the potential to wow or completely disappoint. He needs to find some balance in his performances. I think he needs to use some IQ more consistently and box a bit more at 175. Maybe Sanchez can inspire something in him, but Morrell still needs to listen to instruction and implement gameplans instead of just winging it.
