It's obvious the newer generations after Ali used him as an example of what not to do when it came to fighting too long
I always ALWAYS say that Ali was decent in 1978 when he became 3 time Heavyweight champ beating Leon Spinks. He still spoke decent, still with a slur, but he was coherent. It's the coming out of retirement to fight Larry Holmes is what did him in. He took so many drugs and thyroid pills to lose weight and get shape for the fight, that it zapped his energy and his mental.
