In front of a raucous, partisan crowd at the Northern Virginia Community College’s Ernst Center in Annandale, VA. Tori “Sho Nuff” Nelson of Ashburn, VA successfully defended her WIBA Welterweight championship with a second-round TKO over former world champion Mia “The Knockout” St. John of Oxnard, CA. Nelson was truly the aggressor throughout the contest, landing her left hand repeatedly. Early in the second round, Nelson landed a crushing left hand that sent St. John on wobbly legs. The bout was stopped at the 42-second mark of the second round when referee Steve Smoger deemed St. John unfit to continue.
“I was shocked,” Nelson said when asked whether she was surprised at the outcome. “She came to me aggressively and I was used to that because I spar with boys so I just reacted and that’s what happened.”
Nelson scores her first professional knockout and remains undefeated at 9-0-3, one KO. St. John falls to 47-14-2, 18 KOs.
