The offense not doing shyt week in and week oout and not giving them much rest is a huge factor, I think moreso than what you mention. 3 and outs and quick turnovers do the defense no favors.

I haven't heard anything, but the guy's always out of shape, so that probably affects his recovery.

That's certainly part of it, but this defense exceeded even the biggest homer's expectations. They don't have near the talent level of say Seattle or San Francisco.
