:whoa:

Well I did say what I mainly used the PS3 for. I used the PS3 Media Server to copy or watch stuff I downloaded from my PC.

Dude came through and said the Roku is a better option, I have some knowledge on how the Roku works but nothing much on Chromecast. Which one is simpler? What can one do the other can't?
I was riding hard for the Roku initially... I even have 3 of them. But after some weird problems with Plex and streaming my local movies on them, I think the Chromecast is a great option. Do you download a lot of your content (TV shows/Movies)?

Yeah, Netflix for old shows/movies I may have missed out on (including foreign piff and it's original content), Amazon Instant Prime for back up, and torrent/direct links for the newer content.

For the downloaded content I used PS3 Media Server which streamed/copied almost every type of media I ran into (most importantly the MKVs).

Well, on the Chromecast you stream your local content without even using a media server.

All you need is this extension/app called Videostream in Chrome and you can select the file you want to play from your PC and stream it to your TV. With the Roku, I used Plex Media Server, and it worked fine for like a year and some months... then went to shyt. The interface for Plex is nice, but I only use it for TV shows that I happen to download the same night they run. I use the Chromecast for my movies because no media server is involved and there are less things that can go wrong/change to create problems.

:patrice: Yeah, can't have the media server trippin' on me. I remember one revision of the PS3 Media Server had me watching shyt on my computer.

Right.

That's why I'm not even going to bother with Plex anymore. Had a great run, but :camby:

This is what I'm on now...

I've tried it with mkv files and the quality is excellent and I didn't have any issues with it playing straight through. Also, the remote/app that you have on your phone is easier to work with than with a server.
