Got my first stamps on my renewed passport down in Peru. Went with fam to Cusco, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain.
Cusco: 11,000 ft elevation. Stay there for a couple of days to get acclimated. Lots of archeological historical sites. We booked a tour and went to the Maras salt mines, Moray ruins, and Ollantaytambo (one of the last inhabited Inca towns).
Machu Picchu: From Cusco we took a 2 hour train ride to Aguas Calientes. From there a bus takes you up to MP. No lie, there's spiritual energy up there. You can feel it as soon as you see the famous shot. No worries about altitude. Our guide said the crowds were small this time of year.
Rainbow Mountain: Was revealed by climate change about 10 years ago. Used to be covered in snow and ice. Now you can hike and chill up there. 16,000 ft. I hiked, but it kicked my ass and my heart was beating a million bpm by the time I made it. Got knocked out for about an hour, shyt is no joke. I found out later, but you can buy portable OxyShot canisters at a botica (pharmacy).
Exchange rate: 1 USD: 3.81 Soles.
Food: I had alpaca steak, a bit salty but otherwise fine. No big difference from regular steak. They also eat cuy (guinea pig): hard pass from me. Living in Miami I've had plenty of lomo saltado, arroz chaufa, ceviche, and Peruvian cuisine in general. Next time I hit my Peruvian spot I'm gonna ask why they don't serve cuy
Coca tea is mandatory to help with altitude sickness. You can buy coca candy too.
Women: if you're into short indigenous looking non-english speaking joints you'll be in heaven.
It's a historical and spiritual kind of trip. If you're gonna hike train for that shyt. I went up there on some DGAF I'm a man shyt and Rainbow mountain thought different.
