Gotta find a new spot since Swahili village in Beltsville burned down.

Sun Dim in Hillcrest Heights

Choba's African Bakery in Waldorf (if you don’t mind the drive lol)

AfriCaribbean Taste in Fort Washington

Jodeem African Cuisine in Greenbelt (it’s inside the mall, but I promise you they’re really good. Their goat meat can be a lil too fatty tho

i didnt know that. It has been years since i stepped foot in Swahili

Yeah, they had a big fire in their kitchen about a year ago and have been closed for business ever since.


I'm missing that cube steak with piri piri sauce.

Not sure if y’all found out about it but I just looked online and Swahili Village is open for business again Still up in Beltsville along Rhode Island Ave.

The OG gayborhood in the city lmao Other than that element tho, I fux with Dupont. It’s a very beautiful neighborhood with a whole lotta shyt going on and it’s always busy both day and night. That island park in the middle of the neighborhood is always a cool place to chill at and read a book, play chess with someone, people watch, sunbathe, play in the water fountain, have a picnic date, etc.

dupont isn’t the gay neighborhood that it was the 90s-00s. That’s more on 14th st, Logan circle area.

there’s countless food options, I can walk to traders, Safeway, Whole Foods, metro stop at my door, rock creek park a few blocks away, farmers market on Sundays, I can hop on rock creek parkway to get out the city…it’s a dope neighborhood

Yeah it’s a pretty cool neighborhood, I might walk around it just because for old times sake. Plus, I miss hitting up Kramerbooks First independent bookstore I’ve ever step foot in and patronized.

But I'll probably still drive the extra 10 minutes to Beltsville because I know how Swahili village throws down

A lot of diplomats had been complaining about the 'long' drive out to Beltsville. So they opened a new more upscale spot in Dupont last year called The Consulate. Timing couldn't have been worse as they opened right when COVID hit.

The owner said the only way the new spot survived last year was because Beltsville was doing so well with online

New location looks dope. Seems bigger than the Beltsville. They have good space and room for private parties. Similar menu. Yall should check it out when you get a chance

I’ll be sure to hit it up. I’ve been wanting to expand my palette with other cuisines from the Eastside of Africa outside of Ethiopian/Eritrean.
