It's more like a lounge now. They serve food, the lights are dim and the TVs are playing sports. The food is still good. The bars are still active, but they don't have anything on tap...all bottles.

It wasn't crowded at all when I went...honestly it was kinda dead. The crowd was older though, probably 35+. I also saw a bunch of oldheads wearing sneakers when before, that was a no no.

I guess Park’s under new management it seems. All them pics I’ve seen of the place during brunch hours and late nights be packed with ppl from their late 20s to late 30s and the atmosphere looked more club-like albeit more classy and sophisticated.

Are those old pics? It used to be like that. I even searched the hashtag on IG and all the pics were from within the last 5 years. I saw no post Covid pics.

Marc Barnes said he done with the club shyt

“We have decided that we don't want the clubs, that now we don’t want nightlife. We want you to do your birthday party, we want to be more speakeasy,” said Marc Barnes, owner of The Park At 14th.

On any given weekend, pre-pandemic, thousands of people flocked in and out of their D.C. location.

“Nightlife has become too much,” Barnes said.

Like many business owners, Barnes had to figure out a way to financially survive the pandemic.

“It was eye-opening,” Barnes said about the reopening of the region.

Their doors were closed for months and the future was unknown until the once crowded club decided to reopen solely as a restaurant.

“People don't dance in clubs, anyway. So, when we did open back up as restaurant only we noticed people were spending more,” Barnes added.

Economically, Barnes said it’s the best decision they can make. He detailed all the money the business is saving by opening only as a restaurant.

“We noticed people were spending more. It was easier. I mean we were spending $15,000 in security $10,000 In DJs, another $6,000 in police outside, insurance was out of control for nightlife,” Barnes added.

I heard Marvin’s closed down? That was my spot for years. We would start every night out on the rooftop. :mjcry:

Damn, they had a rooftop too? :mjcry: I would always randomly pop in when I’m hitting up Busboys. Marvin would always have live jazz performances on the first floor, shyt was a whole vibe :wow:

Tropicanas or Jerk Pit?

Maybe Tropicana’s but if you go to Jerk Pit, a friend of my mom’s highly recommend hitting up their Greenbelt (or wherever their northern PG spot is) location since they’re supposedly more spicy.

Edit: I may be thinking about Dat Jerk lol

park is a full on restaurant now :francis:
Haven’t been there since the first year it opened the first time I lived in the area. That shyt is really 3/4 floors of just restaurant? :dahell:

edit: saw the rest of the posts in this thread. Wonder if it’s a good spot to catch the game. I wanted us to get out and watch it, but looks like it’s gonna rain this evening so that might kill the motivation I have right now

Hyattsville is weird. Like it’s a small city that barely got any hoods but it has a few hotspots around there that be a lil active like the neighborhood near PG Mall (where Amherst Rd is, my friend lives around there and hearing gunshots at night ain’t uncommon) or some of them Section 8 apartments that around the city or the occasional MS-13 underground activity. The East-West Highway area do be having some wandering crackheads and bold vagrants too who’ll start knocking on your car windows and shyt tryna get your attention. Hyattsville can be cool (hate driving around there tho) but it can definitely get kinda sketch at night, even the downtown.

You got Riverdale and MR right there and PG mall up the street that was definitely some spill over..smh ignorant brehs probably blastin off over petty dusty nikka shyt...Your right tho Hyattsville doesn't really have any "hoods" that I know of but there is definitely heavy trappin going on same with CP n Greenbelt...I dont know about now but the yardies had shyt on lock for years...

Downtown Hyattsville is nice asf tho....and some of those Victorian and Antebellum style houses in the historic district by the strip are a sight to see....

Smart move the club shyt is dead....to many option now a days got to be versatile....

I heard Marvin’s closed down? That was my spot for years. We would start every night out on the rooftop. :mjcry:

Hands down the best spot in the city.....I was hearing they might open back up in the fall....hopefully its in the same spot cause its way to unique to reopen in another location...
