I was relentlessly mocked when I said Trump would be the candidate to spur the most change to the landscape of America's political ideology, so you will excuse me if I talk my talk right now.

I'll have to see deeper demographic breakdowns, but if history is any indication, the Democratic Party will attempt to tack rightward. Trump winning the election was a rebuke of money and "experience" in politics more than just about anything else. The Wall Street candidate lost. Where do these monied interests go? Trump has rejected their model and lifted the veil of the system. There's going to be a lot of pressure and incentive for the Democratic Party to consolidate their status as the sole establishment, monied party. There's obviously a lot of popular support for Democrats turning leftwards as well, but the Democratic Party and their donors will not go quietly into the night.

My hope right now is that Trump harbours grievances and refuses to capitulate to these slimeball Republicans who will now come begging with tail between their legs. They did nothing to help him get elected, so Trump has a reason to view himself as a singular force in politics, not beholden to any orthodoxy. All my screeds on how Trump is similar to Bernie and has some leftist, bi-partisan ideological leanings need to be used by progressives and change agents to push Trump to stick to his word. If he just becomes a Republican puppet, then sure, hold ground and fight and fight and fight. But I suspect someone like Trump won't feel beholden to anyone. Breh was namechecking Bernie 24/7 since the convention, let's hold him to that.
