But what utility does one get of cats? Self sufficiency from an animal that provides no use is still fruitless. Dogs are friendlier and better protectors than cats, what's the argument for the latter?

Cats have no utility, except maybe if you're plagued with mice and other critters. I suppose it takes a certain personality to like cats. On lazy days I sometimes stare at my cat doing cat things for one or two hours. I'm just fascinated by them.

There's an old witticism that goes like this: dog people think dogs are smarter because they can obey commands and do tricks. Cat people think cats are smarter for that same reason*meaning because they don't do those things.

I admire the inner power of cats.

Well they're great at eliminating pests. I've never seen a spider or any kind of bug or rodent in my house.
But I don't have a pet for it's utility, I have it for companionship so .
