Have a pile of money already and use that to start a business you are confident in and can succeed in
Have the gift of gab that you can use to convince people to fund your goal
Get more educated or more skilled than those around you because education gives you options (and nothing else btw...but options are priceless)

Avoid tacoma because its fairly far away from the city and grimey. Fed way is alright. If You have a good value in u district take it.
I live in southlake union and love it. Look up the following neighborhoods:
Greenwood
Ballard
(Both are just north of dwntwn and lake union)
Central district
Fremont
All > tacoma or federal way but cost of housing reflects that too
