BRehs I just started this hustle a few weeks ago and am starting to do pretty well. This is putting some extra cash in my pocket and I wanted to share my knowledge and see if anyone else is doing something similar.
Pretty much I look at craigslist (mainly electronic section) and look for items that are in good shape and may be undervalued. I then copy paste the information into camelcamelcamel.com or checkaflip.com and see what the price is on amazon or ebay.
If the salesrank is a low number (means it will sell quick) and I can make 20%-50% profit I will scoop the item of craiglist and list it on ebay ASAP.
It is best to pick categories that you are knowledgeable in so you can easily spot the deals. If you can find older people selling electronics you can clean up pretty easily. I have been selling routers, GPS systems, MacBooks, and other items with great success.
Another tip is to get the amazon seller APP which lets you scan the barcode of items while you are in a store and it will tell you the average price the item is selling for online. I recently did this at TJ Maxx with some hats and saw that all the hats were selling on amazon for 2x the price. I bought up 15 hats and put them all for sale on ebay right away. This is called Retail Arbitrage, the best part about this is if the hats dont sell then I can just return them to TJ Maxx and get my money back.
I have been limiting my risk on bigger items (Laptops) by contacting the seller on craigslist and then posting the item to ebay right away before I buy it with the reserve price set at the price I am spending on the item. As soon as the reserve price is met I go buy the item from the seller on craigslist. This guarantees that I will not take a loss on the bigger ticket items.
I will add to this thread over time with my strategies and pickups, anyone else getting their side hustle on out there?
