I think the strategy was fine. For once Ferrari made the right call and brought in Leclerc when they needed to. If Leclerc didn't block then the strategy would have panned out - at least to get Hamilton in front. I don't know if he could have maintained it though. The Ferrari didn't look great on corner entry and mid corner, but on exit, particularly on traction, they had the edge. You saw it on the first lapand every time though Ascari and Parabolica. That advantage would have kept him in play if he was in second.
