I routed most the cables under the drive bracket and a couiple under the motherboard.

That looks atrocious. Get some zip ties, or twist ties, or something. And do like 2guns said and run those behind the drive caddy.

Thinking about converting my old PC into a HTPC since I never sold the parts. It's a Q9550 with 3GBs of RAM. I did sell the video card so gotta replace that and I guess will need a HD homerun prime.

Thinking about converting my old PC into a HTPC since I never sold the parts. It's a Q9550 with 3GBs of RAM. I did sell the video card so gotta replace that and I guess will need a HD homerun prime.

That should do. Whatever mobo you have with it is going to decide what case you can get and what video card can fit. If you can sell those old parts for 100+ and have a MC nearby I'd just rebuild.

So much better. You'll get better airflow through the case without all those wires in the way.

ok i finished both builds and got windows 8 and server 2012 running on them now i need to know how exactly do i transfer all my files to the server...mainly all the movies on my laptop

On your server on the drive you want to transfer shyt to you need to right click, properties, sharing tab, advanced sharing, and select share this folder.

On your laptop you are going to want to map a network drive.

Just need Plex Server application on the server. If you want to use the Plex interface to play your media then install Plex Media Center on the HTPC.
