Ft. Stewart, Ga
From Budden’s interview

The working titles for the album were

“fukk a Title”

“Hip Hop is Alive”

They didn’t go with the first title because it would be too hard to promo and Premo said he saw how much grief the press gave Nas over the N I G G E R album title.

The second title was more concrete as they both felt good about it but then they saw that KRS & Marley Marl made an album called Hip Hop Lives so they put that aside.

Define My Name was always meant to be an announcement on the album and not on the album itself.

NY State of Mind Part 3 is a “capstone” for the NY series and there won’t be anymore. It was Nas idea to sample Billy Joel and he reached out to him to clear the sample. Says he wanted to do “more” with it but Billy is on hiatus.

Git Ready was the original intro for the album.

Of Nasty Esco Nasir, Nas says that Nasty is the MC and Esco is the alter ego. But you can represent both as long as you do it “right”.

Of the mythical Nas/AZ album, AZ told Nas he has a crop of beats waiting to go for them but AZ is so busy and always has so many ideas and its hard for them to get in a studio and just say their going to do it. Nas says they both want it to happen but its about timing and them both agreeing to lock it in.

Says his favorite AZ collab is Serious and he was upset that they couldn’t clear the sample to make an album. Also says The Essence and Phone Tap.

Says he originally sent Daughters to Eminem to get on but Eminem told his daughter he wouldn’t make anymore songs referencing her so Eminem told Nas no but “Thank you for sending me this because most rappers who want to collab don’t want to be conceptual, they just want to battle me.”

Says of rappers having their own podcasts, “Its about time for those who lived it to be in control of the narratives.”

Nas and Premo confirmed they WILL tour the album at some point.

Premo says he owns all of his publishing and says that the publishing royalties he gets from Hamilton is “Crazy”. Says that NY State Of Mind gets licensed so much he could take five years off if he wanted.

If they had to choose one song to introduce to a new Hip Hop fan. Preme couldn’t choose one, he said Eric B Is President and Check The Rhyme. Nas said Award Tour.
