From reddit summary: "Rory and Mal wanted more ownership over the years, he never gave any and instead raised their salaries, despite in Joe's opinion, them bringing very little to the table"
Lol this is a podcast not a fuking startup on the way to an IPO... it is fairly simple. The other guys at their peak made the pod fun and went on tour, tweeted and messaged about it. I am sure they had ideas for growing the podcast. You guys may not like Schulz but he gives every member of his flagrant team equity and salaries. He was making jokes of them using his business card too much and going first class last trip - but he was kidding and its all jokes. Money is important but it can't rule your life. The times you spend with your friends is what you'll look back on.
As a leader, Joe should look for harmony with his people, he should look at the larger goal of the podcast being x as in x years. And for that, keep the troops happy, keep them motivated and give them value. If you are a leader, you know you drive the value, empower other people to believe in themselves too. Being a great effective business person is about managing emotions with decisions. Dude is too emo for this shyt.
Again, this isn't rocket science. It's a podcast not Tesla. Even Tesla, the first few employees get equity and paid, you set out a vision for them, tell them to do x amount and hopefully they hit their targets and you grow together. Honestly, it is bad on both sides, but it is Joe's fault end of the day. Joe is not a leader. Look at Schulz and Charla, when have you seen them in this mess?
One interesting contrast is Kanye. Kanye is known for being egotistical but he has so many relationships with so many people, and collabs. He seems like he has figured out how to be self obsessive and a visionary but works with people and maintains relationships...
