Back in the day, everyone called Hispanic people Spanish. Why? Because they spoke Spanish. Not because they were from Spain.

The push for calling people Latinos and Hispanic is really something that was pushed after 2000.
Do ppl call Americans, Jamaicans and Guyanese “English ” because English is spoken?

No, only ppl in England are English.

Do ppl call Haitians, Saint Lucians and Martinicans “ French” because French is spoken?

No, only ppl in France are French.

Do ppl call Brazilians, Angolans and Cape Verdeans “Portuguese” because Portuguese is spoken?

No, only ppl in Portugal are Portuguese.

New Yorkers calling Spanish speaking ppl “Spanish” was always and still is dumb.

Calling Spanish speakers Hispanics is accurate because Brazil doesn’t speak Spanish.

Latin is an accurate description for the Latin-American region in the Americas, as the culture and language groups fall under it.

The term Latin is also old and not something of the 00s.
