You don't have to be in something from the start to feel you should get a piece of it.

I came to the pod from everyday struggle and i always used to wonder who dude was in the fitted that never talked. I thought it was a joke or some shyt that Mal was there on his phone the entire episode and it was mostly just rory and Joe talking...this is when they were at the old studio.

To come to this point where mal wants equity and saying he built the the house is just really funny to me. Mal is pretty much a soundboard

And this is why they needed ownership, now Joe can fire them and hire cheaper talent to replace them with.

Rory and Mal don't look good off this either. How you work alongside this nikka for so many years while he ranted about knowing your deal and you don't know what's in your own contract?

Its very common for someone to get an ownership stake / equity even if they weren’t there from the start of the business.

But it’s on Rory and Mal for never bringing it up or negotiating it.
