What’s crazy is it’s so much harder to implement a run game then it is a pass game. That’s why the spread took over college football. It’s easier to coach passing with natural athlete then it is to take the time to develop an offensive line that can block and make reads.
Growing up all the trash high school teams ran the spread. It was still considered a gimmick offense all the way to the mid-2000’s. Until smaller school coaches figured out you could put up insane offensive numbers and keep your job a little longer even when you go beat down when you played a real team.
Somehow Harbaugh has flipped that on its head. He has developed one of the most complicated offensive line schemes. Multiple formations, pulls, down G, split zone. Yet can’t throw the ball with any level of consistency. Arguably the worst passing offense in the power 5 relative to talent. It’s quite impressive
