Thought Sass would be like :myman: to you, considering hes won like 11 of 12 fights by sub or something like that. I think he has 9 wins by triangle too. Make sure you find a way to watch that fight. Amazing jiu jitsu battle.

Also, I recommend that fight to @Heelhook I know he enjoys great jiu jitsu too.

Man I didnt see it...ill check the replay for it. Good lookin out :salute:

Ill be honest...the more popular MMA gets, the less I have been in it. I used to be obsessive about it, but now I just get up for the bigger fights/matchups I really want to see. But im always checkin for BJJ being used effectively in MMA. It kind of disappeared I feel like for awhile (not completely...but it seemed like the sport was at a stale mate with being content to sit in guard/half guard if the fight got taken down to the ground, and winning the round rather than being concerned about trying to advance/finish

I would LOVE to see MMA fighters wear Rashguards to help with the slippery/sweating to increase friction. Not gonna happen though

Edit: Just saw the highlights of that fight...great transitions...Wiman is underrated

To be honest breh..i havent even looked into any of these guys..i was putting all my time into the #Bellator event last night that i covered for #TheColi

:whew:

Ima peep tho..i heard it was a good fight...MMA grappling has gotten beautiful as of late..nikkas bussin out the rubber guard semi regularly :leon:

breh, the fight went to the ground in the first 10 seconds and stayed ther the whoke time. I guarantee you'll be like :wow: when you get a chance to watch this fight. In fact, try to peep the whole card, even the facebook prelims. Just skip the Hathaway/Maguire fight (:trash:).

Gunnar Nelson made his UFC debut. Renzo Gracie Black Belt that placed 4th in ADCC Absolute back in '09. He looked incredible. He got Machida like striking too.

As long as youre active trying to sweep/submit someone, it should be okay..but you dont get credited for activity on the bottom half the time in todays MMA :beli:

I saw that finish too but not the fight....I need to see how it played out. I like to see the things leading up to the submission (how he passed guard/took his back, solidified the back/grips/ect)

I didnt know he was that credentialed (4th in ADCC absolute)

With Vinny Malgalhaes back in the UFC, you could be :eat: good for a bit. UFC got another card on FX next week. Jussier Da Silva is making his debut on the main card. He's a top notch black belt. Also, two of the better LW black belts in Thiago Tavares vs. Dennis Hallman is on the same card on the Fuel prelims. So, that could be a great ground battle. Could be a shytty kick boxing match to though :(

If you ain't get it by tomorrow, let me know and I'll hook you up. Although, I don't even know any good file sharing sites anymore cause all the ones I used to use got out the game.

Yeah, he beat Jeff Monson and David Avellan back in that ADCC. His transitions tonight were :wow: . So smooth. I was impressed with his striking though. I was expecting him to be garabge standing and this dude come out looking like a WW Lyoto had me :dwillhuh:

Yeah im not up Da Silva but I will be checking

These guys man... we need the JJ guys to develop the wrestling. If u could combine Vinny's BJJ with Chael's Wrestling :ohlawd:

but then again...the reason Vinnys BJJ is that good is bc hes training for as long as he has...and the reason Chaels Wrestling is so good is bc he trained that for so long (growing up)

But still...we need our BJJ representatives to get the fight to the ground, or it doesnt matter how good ure BJJ is. Seems like they always develop their striking and spend a lot of time on it (Demian Maia - K1 Maia....Werdum developed into a really good striker...Roger Gracie has been working hard on his boxing)...i need them to use that same attitude to drag these fights to the ground

NJ robbed us of some good grappling :damn:

@Heelhook
@Jutt

Here's Gunnar's fight, if you don't mind watching a fairly LQ link

Very Impressive

When u get someone real good like that...its almost a waste to even try to submit them...Demarques rolled for an omoplata (trying to sweep him...and then he went for a toe hold off of Gunnars defense), but Gunnar just used that opening to pass his guard, and get on with his game

Im sure Demarques is good in his own right, but you get the point...he might've been better off just playing defensively for a stand up, and trying to get to his feet stat

Watch out for Gunnar making waves, I like his unorthodox stand up, Kenny Florian said his wrestling is really good (im sure theyve trained together), and his BJJ looks tight

I agree. I was :heh: when I saw Johnson trying to submit him. Johnson has decent jiu jitsu but Gunnar is elite at WW. That being said, it didn't look like the striking was going much better for Johnson either :manny:

And of course...Paul Sass is a good submission artist (even though I dont think hes got those credentials as Gunnar), but Matt Wiman subs him...so it kinda knocks my theory from above that they should be attacking with submissions against guys higher level than them, and worry more about being defensive and standing up

It depends on the fight I suppose

Watching some of the fights I missed earlier. Jimi Manuwa is like a 205 Paul Daley with worse stamina. I'd like to see how he'd fare against a guy like Ryan Bader.
