This is a silly comparison. Diaz probably spent those 11 days cutting and didn't have time for sparring. You face one of the best strikers in MMA and preparing for the biggest fight of your life with so much on the line you are going to go hard up to the last minute
It is a legit comparison...
(1) 11 days before the fight, you are not going to learn anything new, and the stuff you have been drilling all your life isn't going to disappear...
(2) If you have noticed, those 14 days before the fight is usually when a fighter pulls out...That tells me training hard close to the fight is high risk and low reward...You are just breaking down the body, and not gaining any new skills...
(3) I think it would be better for fighters to do cardio and rest (heal some training injuries)...Yoga and massages to stay flexible...If you have been training hard at the beginning of camp, that work will NOT evaporate 1-2 weeks before the fight...
It is like studying for a big exam, if you do all the hard work in the beginning when you have more time, you don't need to be up all night cramming the night before the exam...
