The UFC is slightly tweaking their bonus structure on fight nights effective immediately, announcing on Tuesday night that they're getting rid of the "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" bonuses.

Up to four fighters will still earn $50,000 extra each event, but instead of the "KO" and "Submission" awards, the UFC will reward two fighters they deem to have the best performances on the card. The "Performer of the Night" awards are in addition to the still intact "Fight of the Night" awards.

The UFC's statement on the change is below:

"The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today a modification to its live event bonuses. Effective immediately, UFC will award "Fight of the Night Bonuses" to each of the fighters in the best fight of the night, as well as additional "Performance of the Night Bonuses" to the two best individual performances on the card. The bonus amounts will remain $50,000. The "Performance of Night" bonuses will reward the athletes who put on the best and most exciting individual performances."

Dana being a cheap ass nikka

Naw i think it has more to do with some other factors. 1. the obvious what happens when there are no subs or ko's. 2. This is fox tv they are trying to clean up all their sports image especially in nfl with head and concussion injuries, so celebrating and awarding knocking a dude out senseless may open themselves up to future ligation in promoting brain damage. By calling it a performance it gives lawyers a better way to dance around the issue later in court.

Chicago
UFC "PG" era on deck. Wouldn't be surprised if they end up wearing face masks to prevent bleeding in the future.

dont really see the big deal it was starting to look silly having cards with no subs or kos.And from a morale standpoint its a big incentive for fighters to go out and not play it safe :manny:

:damn: Dana didn't have to put him out there like this
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, White spoke to Overeem last week following his lopsided win at UFC 169, and in doing so offered Overeem an upcoming five-round main event bout to be contested against the 33-year-old's elusive rival, Junior dos Santos, in Brazil.

According to White, Overeem turned down the offer, then turned down a subsequent offer to fight dos Santos in a three-round co-main event bout in Las Vegas.

"He wants nothing to do with dos Santos," White told Helwani. "He's literally hiding from JDS ... but he had no problem calling out Brock Lesnar who hasn't fought in 2 years and who is in WWE
."

I agree. But damn

Update: Following the report, Overeem responded to MMAFighting.com about why he turned down the opportunity at this time.

"I'm hurt," he said. "Rib problem. So first need an ETA on recovery time. [It] would be unwise to accept any fight before knowing exactly what's up. wouldn't want to pull out of any fight [due to] being unfit, especially an anticipated fight as this one."

:ld: was never sold on the belief he was the best lw in the world...Dude was overrated to me so its no great loss
@arielhelwani: According to @kevinI, Rashad Evans has suffered a leg injury and is out of UFC 170, and as a result, so is Daniel Cormier. Details to come.
with the last 2 cards, the anderson/gsp departures and the recent string of injuries/cancellations this feels like 2012 again..Blessing in disguise the way I see it was never a fan of the fight just on principle (let alone stylistically)
