majority of fighters dont know when to quit, u rarely see them go out on top
guys like wonderlei will only leave when they literally cant train anymore
i just hope anderson doesnt take a major L
Checking out fightmetric, Penn landed 13 significant strikes... if you told me he didn't land any I would have believed you. He did absolutely nothing in that fight
Well now that I think about it, in defense of UFC/Dana, hes last fights were he was getting killed was against big ass WW like Diaz and McDonald. No one knew he would be this shot, esp at his natural weight class and lower. And he seemed to train and was serious about making weight. But I knew during his walk out that he was not mentally invested. Even during his Buffer intro, he was just standing there and not doing the patented beast stare/face slapping pump up gestures. Sad way to go out. I hope guys like Silva and Hendo watches this and re evaluates stepping into the cage well past prime.
I'm really hoping he gets the Diaz fight and calls it a day after. The fact that Weidman dropped him with one punch from the same clinch that he made a career of humbling people from makes it scary to think forward towards these up and comers.
Being a fight fan sucks man. Everybody gets old and eventually loses that "thing"

It especially sucks when we lose them all at once, whether u like em or hate em the hole these TRT guys are going to leave will be huge. Now we've just lost bj and anderson is a fight or 2 away, sad times
wasnt interested til i kept reading about this stance so i had to see. i dunno...cashing a check is one thing but none of penns offense looked genuine, for what little he tried. if thats cashing a check he did it with a lot of contempt.

I expected Rousey to polish off Davis, but not THAT fast.
Now can we just sign Cyborg or Holly Holm now, and put Ronda up against a true test?
I picked Weidman to win, but I was not slouching on Machida. Weidman greatly impressed me the first three rounds, then showcased great heart and will to withstand Machida's late furry. Lyoto was very game as well and took advantage of his title shot opportunity. Both guys left it all in there and then some, and both have nothing to be ashamed of. If this leads to a rematch, I'd be all down for it. Hell of a fight.
I didn't watch a single second of TUF this season, but before the 205 final started, I knew Corey was gonna be beastin on that CAC just on eye test alone, and I was right. Dude has scary potential, and could be a champion himself one day.
And alas... BJ.
I'm a Frankie Edgar mark so I was uber-confident that he would win, but damn. I didn't think he would do that. It was a combination of Edgar looking brilliant and wanting to plant a statement, but it was also on how BJ looked. He looked lethargic, old, and completely out of place. I actually thought 145 was too dangerous of a cut for him, and in fact, Frankie looked even bigger than him. I had no idea what the hell he was doing standing straight up and not pressing the action, letting Frankie do what he usually does and that's outwork & outpace. I thought this would look more like the second fight, but once I saw Edgar cause that mouse and hematoma near BJ's eye, I knew it was only a matter of time. That last round was so fukking sad to watch, and was brutal to witness. I have never felt so disparaged while watching an all-time great look so practically helpless except for one other time, and that's Anderson broke his leg. Thank God Dean stopped it then and there, cause I had more than seen enough. So did Dana, that's why he left halfway through.
This better be it for BJ now. If he still wants to fight after this, I'll personally fly to Hawaii and slap him myself for thinking such crazyness. The spot has passed him by, and it's time to just say enough. He's a beautiful family to support, so for their sake and his, I hope he retires and stays retired. I will always appreciate and admire the career, toughness & tenacity of BJ Penn. He gave no fukks and just went in there to scrap and give a good show. That's why he took this fight, that's why he wanted GSP in 09, that's why he even fought Machida at fukking HEAVYWEIGHT, and STILL gave Lyoto a tough fight. BJ has himself a spot in the UFC HOF lined up perfectly, so now it is time for him to enjoy the fruits of his labor, and share it with his family while he still has his health.
Thank you, BJ. You were a true warrior.
And now let's turn our attention to Mr. Edgar. Say what you want about how BJ looked, but I doubted any seriously thought Edgar would finish him, given that outside of Maynard, he's never finished anyone in a high-profile fight. He now becomes officially the third man to EVER defeat BJ Penn by stoppage? The other 2? Matt Hughes and GSP. Pretty fukking good company, I say. (And if you want to be technical, he and Hughes have only been the ever 2 men who has (T)KO'd BJ via strikes, while GSP got him after BJ's corner stopped the fight.)
Edgar looked great, implemented his style flawlessly, and is now right back into the title picture. If Aldo's gonna be out for a while, and 176 needs a savin' now that Honda is out with her hand, and provided that Frankie needs no medical suspension, throw him in against Mendes, and to entice people to buy it, state that the winner of that gets Aldo. Or if you want to promise Mendes his title shot, and Cub Swanson is still good to go, let him and Edgar have that spot at Staples Center next month, and the winner of that gets the winner of Aldo/Mendes.
I have personally felt that Frankie Edgar has just not garnered enough respect over the years, even though he has proven time and time again that he is one of the toughest b*stards to ever step foot in the Octagon, is extremely class & humble, and is a hell of a fighter to boot. Maybe now, after he did what many thought was unattainable and finished the great BJ Penn, that Frankie will start to get more of that respect.

Close fight. I could see either guy taking it, although I'm rooting for Romero. Markes and Brunson both took Romero down, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Kennedy get a TD
