Companies didn't want to invest in it anyway, they did it cause it was profitable and the most popular genre...once hip hop stops being the most popular genre, we'll see how much mainstream content we get and what will happen with the labels.
Thinking about it now...hip hop dropping in popularity might be good for it. Only ppl that love the art will try something that isn't portrayed as a quick and easy way to get rich and famous.
