Step one, start taking photos. Thousands of them. You shouldn't even be worried about monetization till you find out if you like photography enough. Using models is a whole different bag, famo. Trust me. Just start taking photographs of everything, do your youtube university thing, and get an eye for what you
like to photograph, in what style you prefer, etc.

Going to co-sign @At30wecashout you have to practice shooting before anything else. If people are paying for photo work they expect quality work, only way to get it is by practicing. As far as models if you get into that you will have to learn lighting, and then find new models or friends to test with. Usually it's called trade for services or TFP aka Time For Prints. Take your time and shoot and learn as much as you can.
I have tons of people to practice on but y'all right I gotta practice. I get ahead of myself cause of the excitement.

Completely understandable, we all have been there. Lighting equipment can vary from onboard flashes to studio strobes, a decision you will have to decide on what you want to carry around. Onboards usually use batteries or packs and mount on top of your hotshoe, you can mount them on tripods and lightstands and use mini-umbrellas and softboxes for them, all that is relatively portable.
Studio strobes are larger, and have larger accessory equipment, usually ac-powered or from a rechargeable battery pack. I have used both, currently have 2 studio strobes, love them to death.
Programs can range from GIMP, to Adobe Photoshop Elements, to their Creative Suite. I'm still rocking CS6.
Lightroom is the go to program. But lighting can be either speedlite aka external flash and modifiers, ie: diffusers, reflectors, softboxes, umbrellas. Then onto off camera flash, HSS. It’s a lot to learn.

Been wanting to pickup a full-frame body, think I've settled on the Canon 5DS, prices are going down on them.
