I don't think the ps6 will release in 2027. 2028 to 2030 seems to be what is being suggested in that video yesterday. Probably 2028 since that will be 4 years after the ps5 pro, the same way the ps5 was 4 years after the ps4 pro. 2029 or 2030 would not be surprising either.

I think that should push to 2028, otherwise we're looking at another generation like this one where the extended overlap hampers developer optimization for the new console. I think we're just now starting to see the best of this generation.

That’s gonna happen whether they release it in 2027 or 2028

The old ways of cutting off old consoles are over. Everyone wanted a seamless multigenerational backwards compatible library, well this is what it looks like

And Sonys games are always well optimized so blame that on shytty ue5 devs

Yeah, like Gizmo said above, these generations now just blend seamlessly. LIke you STILL have some games releasing on PS4 lol.

That would be dope and no COVID to prevent this. Though 2028 seems to be the year not 2027. Either way, Sony will need games that sell the system since cross gen exclusives would prevent a number of ps4 and ps5 owners from upgrading.

This also assumes Sony is going to want to stop selling $500 ps5’s after ps6 launches

This switch 1 just got a price increase and it’s still selling, more than xbox

Sony always has exclusives on the next gen playstation every generation the first few years. The only reason why there were cross gen games from them this gen was because those games already started development on the ps4. This will be the same with the ps6, with only games that already started development on the ps5 being cross gen and the rest being exclusive to the ps6. Games being ps6 exclusive won't stop selling the ps5 after the release of the ps6. The ps6 will need exclusives to sell, otherwise cross gen exclusives will convince a number, not all, of current ps4 and ps5 owners to not upgrade, especially with a possible $600-800 or above ps6. I don't expect the ps6 to be that expensive though after what occurred with the ps3. I expect there to be price cuts before the ps6 releases in 3 to 5 years because $500 seems to be the upper bound on what consumers are willing to pay.

It's not about dropping that user base. They do this every generation. They did that with the ps2, ps3, ps4, and ps5. That is going to continue next gen. That's why playstation does well while the xbox declines. They advertise games that cannot be played anywhere else. Read comments, watch reactions, etc. to see a number of people saying they bough a playstation to play game x. Their games next gen, beside those that already started on ps5, will all be ps6 exclusive. They don't decide ahead of time that a game will be cross gen because of the past gen userbase. 3rd party developers usually do that. The cross gen games created by Sony this gen all started development on the ps4 years before the ps5 was announced and were not cross gen because of the ps4 user base.

Comments sections and social media don’t really speak for where the majority of PlayStations sales come from

It might differentiate it from Xbox and Nintendo for hardcore gamers but the casual whales don’t care
