He that hate his brother is in darkness

Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the King

Stay from fleshly lusts which war against the soul

The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes

If you do well and suffer for it, take patiently because Christ also suffered

The face of the Lord is against them that do evil

1 Peter Chapter 3 - Doing evil for evil
1 Peter Chapter 4 - Importance of charity
1 Peter Chapter 5 - Being sober

Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am

From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus

I have to say that this thread is different from what you normally see on here on in other forums in general.

I don't go to church every Sunday but I do get up to watch church programs such as In Touch w/Charles Stanley and Joel Osteen on Sunday mornings. I believe in God but I'm not like religious in the sense of organized religion (if that makes sense). I just think people who are heavily involved into the church get carried away with the extreme "bible thumping" and telling others how to live their lives but they also live in glass houses themselves. Frankly, that's why I don't go to church.

I feel as if church should be a place where anyone should be able to attend to get their own self-enlightenment on what God is about without being judged or the pastor being a hypocritical "gain-for-profit" ass clown using the church as a hustle (Creflo Dollar etc.,) or doing scandalous activities behind the scenes (Eddie Long).

:mjpls: Can someone explain this to me. Bible says EXPLICITLY on several occasions in the New Testament that SLAVES SHOULD OBEY THEIR MASTERS.

Ephesians 6:5-6

5. Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

6.
Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

1Peter 2:18-20

18. You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you—not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel.

19. For God is pleased with you when you do what you know is right and patiently endure unfair treatment.

20. Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.

You have a solidified argument but he speaks from a view of positivism and he seems to know the bible. I mean in a world full of negative I do like that he speaks positive. It's a lot of other pastors out here that like to speak "the word" and then talk about money all in one sermon. I can't get with a pastor that chooses to speak doom & gloom in his sermon every Sunday.

Now if you really want to talk about someone that's no good look at Pat Roberson from the 700 Club. I do not care for his approach at all and with the way he's carried on about Obama since he's been in office I'm led to believe that he's racist. Which made me stop watching the 700 Club altogether.

Is there something in particular you don't like about Joel Osteen outside of his approach of how he chooses to preach the word?

I still don't get the issue of speaking positivity in everyday life. Then again I read a verse awhile back about false prophets coming down believing that Christ will return but it will be Satan disguising himself as an angel or Christ (don't quote me on it). Although the coli have a lot of smart people in this thread is probably much more knowledgeable in the bible verses than I am. I know it.

it's referring to economic slavery not racially based slavery and the Bible has scripture instructing masters to treat servants justly and fairly

1. Where is the scripture to support this?
2. Slavery inherently has racial implications because 1 group is being subjected to a lower state or class.
3. God himself was racially biased and ordered killings of non-israelites including the babies.

Exhibit A: 1 Samuel 15:2-3

2. This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.

3. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys

W
hy were they order to kill these people and not told to obey them? Contradictory right?
