Incredible showing.
I'd recommend it purely for the history...and yeah, i know its biased...but it goes really in depth.

I agree, but I think it is important to study those regimes and time periods carefully to take lessons from them, and not get as caught up in Guy A manipulated this and Guy B did that. I think that the Cultural Revolution in China, for example, is fascinating for many reasons. One reason is that it wasn't a centrally controlled or directed process, and Mao encouraged the masses to question and challenge the Party. Part of that was probably his personal political conflicts and maneuverings, but it was something very different from what was seen in the Soviet Union, or even in contemporary China.
