People complained heavily about green hand being cheap af in 4. Snake just moved to fighters like Kage and still top 100 in the world. SFV pissed off everyone. You could make an argument that nerfing all the shootos made Japanese players weak. Good players picked new characters and still dominatedThe Wall Is Undefeated!

The only difference between now and previous generations is now everybody gets the game at the same time, so Japan don't look like gods for having games a whole year in advance. The playing field being even gives a more realistic layout of international skill
There ain't even a case for shotos being weak. RYU was weak but Akuma was the best character in the game for multiple seasons and only just got major nerfs in season 5. Ken has been a sleeper for years
