To me it seems like Zverev doesn't love tennis or competing. He plays because it's relatively easy for him and he makes a great living doing it. All the physical tools are there but he's a jack of all trades, master of none. There's nothing he can hang his hat on against the best players deep in tournaments to take him over the top and it's been that way for years.
He'll probably eventually get a major after the Big 3 retires and Medvedev/Thiem get hurt or choke before he has to face them but I would be stunned if he won a bunch.
Just look at him right now in a major* semifinal. Has that James Harden body language going on. Clearly ready to go and be done with this.

Reminds me of Berdych in that sense. Berdych never was great at anything but could give anyone hell and was a top 10 mainstay for a long time. We'll see how he progresses now that he's coached by Ferrer

Zverev needs a sports psychologists , someone isn't right with his mental and he doesn't play the right way. Too passive and spends far too much time at the back of the court.
Nothing he's shown in the tournament says he can beat either Thiem or Mednedev, the final of the tournament is about to begin after that it'll be a cake walk for the victor.
