Didn't realize Johnny Mac never won a major after 25I know this sport burns ppl out young but at his tier of player that's still kinda crazy
Reminds me of something I read before about how like Pre-1993, barely any Top ranked Tennis players played at the Australian Open consistently. And if they did play, it wasn't every single year like it is now. It was thought of as a non-serious event. Not playing really effected their Grand Slam count
- Agassi said he missed the Australian Open some years because he rather spend December to spend time with family than training lol
- McEnroe said in a broadcast "Damn, if I thought grand slam count was so important to the GOAT conversation, I should have showed up to the Australian Open more often" lol
- Besides the AO. It was customary that if you "hated grass" you would just skip the entire Wimbledon tournament. Flip side if you "hated clay" you would just skip the entire Roland Garros tournament lol
I think the Federer era is when it was customary to play every single grand slam, every single year
