I wonder if the way Naomi burst onto the scene has anything to do with this

if she had beaten Serena w/o Serena's meltdown...does this affect Naomi the same way...maybe, maybe not but I do wonder if Serena more gracefully passing her the torch could've eased things a bit for Osaka

My counter to that would be everyone embraced Naomi after that. She's been universally loved.

true but if your first major and thrust into the spotlight came with that attach, I can see how that can lead to some of what we're seeing. It feels like she snuck up on the mainstream, became a sensation overnight as opposed to building up to things for years and finally breaking through. It all came at her very fast and it can overwhelm...end of the day, she is an adult so ultimately I think she just has to hide her emotions better and take care of these things.

Naomi went on to win in 3 sets. I think she lost only 1 point on her serve after I posted this.

Novak can't get the golden slam anymore but he mos def is getting the calendar slam
