I said last year I thought Leylah would be able to keep up the higher level of play longer

she went through the tougher draw last year and has been far more consistent...it's only injuries that have slowed her down in regards to building momentum
Emma looks like she hasn't worked on anything in the last year. Couldn't serve for shyt; lotta UEs; didn't have nearly the same pace in her shots either. I'm not sure she won a single net point either.

She's still the most talented player out there for my money. I'll just never believe in her mentally again. Does she look like she's in better shape? That's also been an issue the past couple years.

Eh. I love her but her limitations in topspin, slice and net play disqualify her from me saying shes the most talented on tour. She needs to diversify her game more if she ever wants to win consistently on surfaces other than hard court

just a guess but she probably got caught up in the celebrity and how easy it was to win the USO. Doesn't help all the changes she's made to her camp...there's talent there but mentally, it's gotta catch up for her.

she's not the most athletic but to me, in regards of repertoire, Ons is the most talented on the tour right now

damn shame Barty retired as she was really settling into the number 1 spot

Agreed totally

Barty was the most talented and I have Ons up there with all around shot making ability and diversification. Shes got every shot in the book. If she had more of a banger off the serve she would be #1, perhaps easily. She doesnt have a huge weapon to bail her out but she can hit everything and plays smart

had to log back in to give Naomi props for that last sequence

jumping/one foot backhand on the baseline and a swinging volley to finish it..i dont recall seeing her do either of those things before, let alone in the same point as a combo. beautiful..big indicator shes feeling more at ease mentally..hopefully she continues

Osaka looking better out there than her previous matches, but she blew that first set. Looks like she had a chance to maybe return that lob too, but thought it was going out.
