I think the problem for FAA is outside of his serve (which can be impacted on outdoor courts), his weapons aren't that great

Forehand is big but has a lot of topspin...he can't flatten it out like others at the top so he spends more energy trying to setup the FH winner. His BH are kind of nothing shots...it's not a bad BH but it does nothing really. It can't flip a rally in his favor. His variety also is still a work in progress. Slice seems very stiff from what I remember.

But again, what reason does he have to stick it out and toughen up? That goes for most of these guys too. Zverev has made over $35 million in his career. Do you think he really cares if he ever gets over the hump and wins a Slam?

This is why Alcaraz is gonna run the Tour like prime Fed but maybe a lot longer.

I don't think Alcaraz will have it all his own way for too long, there will be others that will ultimately step up even if they will be 4 years younger or something

I think Zverev cares but he's just a daddy’s boy who won't let anyone else coach him how he's supposed to be coached, his dad coddles him as the golden son. He honestly needs a sports psychiatrist could do wonders for him if he truly committed to something like that and also just let his dad be his dad, no more coaching.

You may on to something about comfort zone with these guys, they make a ton of money early. Shapovalov is one of the biggest disappointments in that regard, a real dumbass despite all the talent.

Great point, for both the men and women. Reminds me of that 'how many nba players hate they job' thread.

To be Fed, Rafa, Nole, Serena level great takes a LOT of money and a LOT more effort and personal drive/ambition to be to that level.

It's crazy that at 20, Alcaraz is showing the mentality to just coast thru matches and turn up when he needs to

I mean he played shytty today and Shelton never really challenged him...Kid has the mental strength of the Big 3 and you can tell the other guys and kinda shook of him now.

The only reason Fed, Nadal and Novak didn't run up 30+ Slams is because the others existed. I doubt lightning strikes like that again in one time period.

I really think Alcaraz could pass all of them unless there's a drastic change in the guys who hit the Tour after him.

Is there even an Andy Roddikk or Stan Wawrinka among the younger guys? If Murray woulda held up, he mighta hit 10+.

I mean I can't really wrap my head around one guy winning 30 but besides Novak, no one is at this level right now, and guys who could challenge Carlos aren't always guaranteed to go deep enough at GS to get to him.

With that being said, folks are extremely high on Carlos' younger brother. He just won an award at the Rafa academy just like Carlos did some years back.

I just looked up his age...he's 11. God help the rest of the Tour. :dead:

Think of how many times those three were in each other's way in Slams. Hell, Nadal alone is the reason Fed and Novak don't each have multiple calendar Slams.

Yep. Players are worn down by this time of year and it has produced the most first time slam winner over the last decade on both the women and the men's side if i recall correctly. Yea, there hasn't been a back to back winner at the USO on the men's side since Fed did it 07-08 and Serena 13-14
