Wilt Chamberlain's Historic 1967 Run - NBA History - Hoops-Nation - Basketball Community & Source

but he had the greatest postseason ever

too bad they didn't record blocks back than.

In 1967, the league average in the playoffs was 102 FGA per game on 42% FG, 35 FTA per game on 72%, and 116 points per game breh. That means that the average team made 43-102 shots and 25-35 FTs. There were 69 rebounds per game to grab at least.

Compare that to 2013, where the league average in the playoffs was 77 FGA per game on 44% FG, 23 FTA per game on 75%, and 95 points per game breh. That means that the average team made 34-77 shots and 17-23 FTs. There were 49 rebounds per game to grab at least.

Why wouldnt Wilt Chamberlain get alot of rebounds in his era when there 20 extra rebounds available per game?:beli:

And that STILL doesnt change the fact that Wilt is the only HOF player to never average more points in the playoffs than regular season for at least 1 season:snoop:

He is known as a guy who put up great numbers who couldn't get it done in the big games. I had no idea about the playoffs number drop but it's pretty much in line with his reputation.

I'm not even trolling, this time, in this thread.

I did not know this shyt and never looked it up, because I was always told that Wilt was the Greatest Scorer Ever:comeon:

I never believed the stories of him "not getting it done", because I always said that Bill Russell played with all HOFers and thats the only reason Wilt didnt win. Come to find out, dude was going missing offensively (for Wilt's standards) every single season in the playoffs.

Do you know how much hatred would be at any of today's players if they never performed in the playoffs at least equal to what they did in the regular season in ANY season?

Look how much grief LeBron got for the 2011 NBA Finals.......Wilt's entire CAREER was like that:mindblown:

Where the hell is dantheman9758? He needs to explain this shyt.

I do admit that I'ma Post-Merger NBA > Pre-Merger NBA stan, but got damn:damn:

People been hiding this info away for years and have never spoken on it. Just keep telling me about how many points he scored and how "100 points in 1 game" and "led the league in assists".......all along he never raised his levels in the playoffs:to:

:deadmanny: Thanks for the clarification.

Of course Wilt would get killed if he played today. But my point was that it's not like he had the greatest rep for stepping up in big moments to begin with. That was pretty much the only thing separating him from undisputed GOAT status. He's known as a great stat compiler who wasn't necessarily a winner. He's just fortunate he came up in the era that he did. You look at how he responded to pressure back then and then just imagine him playing in the 24 hour news cycle, social media generation. :patrice:

Wilt Chamberlain: 5 games with 40+ points in the playoffs in his career, 26 games with 30+ points

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 9 games with 40+ points in the playoffs in his career, 75 games with 30+ points

Shaquille O'Neal: 10 games with 40+ points in the playoffs in his career, 55 games with 30+ points

Hakeem Olajuwon: 11 games with 40+ points in the playoffs in his career, 53 games with 30+ points

Bu-bu-bu, Wilt is the Greatest Scorer In NBA History.........Hakeem Olajuwon has more 40+ scoring games in the playoffs than him though:ufdup:

I noticed this a while ago when I was looking at some of Wilt's highlights and stats. And as much as I say he would still be a dominant player in this era, his numbers dipping like that every playoff has to be held against him. In his 50 ppg season he averaged 40 shot a game in the regular season and in the playoffs he was down to about 29. I don't know if the defense adjusted during the playoffs and did he just shun the spotlight. But if the answer is the defense adjusted to him, then why couldn't they do it during the regular season. This is the one thing against Wilt that I don't think you can argue against. His critics said he had problems in the playoffs and their are numbers to back this up. And that 2-4 Finals record doesn't help either.

There were less teams, better players weren't diluted No Free Agency

Reading up on Wilt

He had a near Quadrouple Double in a Close out game of the NBA Finals playing a Broken Hand.

We talk about flu games
