why do yall pass such judgment on a movie none of you have seen? Just because a black dude is playing a butler character? I mean damn, it's directed by a black dude, with a great black cast and is based on a true story. It's not like they were sitting around thinking of another way they can portray black people as servants.

A black director was sitting around thinking about how he could portray his people as servants? :beli:

A Black director who got mad at Nicole Kidman for not wanting to say the n-word, who also defended paula deen saying "white people loves us when they use the n-word" making a movie like the butler? impossible :troll:

Alright I'll admit we should hold off on judgement until we've seen the movies. A lot of people on the board couldn't agree on if Django was good or bad even after seeing it. I'm damn near gonna go see this just to write a review for everyone.

Y'all have to admit there has been this slave/butler theme arising in movies, a lot of which are thrown out there as Oscar-worthy and shyt, over the past 2 years. Meanwhile Red Tails, Fruitvale, and 42, had almost no buzz at all.

I'm still waiting on a movie that doesn't have the whole magical negro theme to it, with a good cast, that gets good press. That and my Black Panther movie.

I don't know anything about those comments, everyone has different opinions about the n word, I can't claim to say who is right and who is wrong..

I think we should at least see the movie before we judge it. I mean, fukk, Oprah starred in the movie and she won't even be friends with anyone who uses the N word.

"******flies" It up Harry, really :comeon:
The bulk of Butler is about the lead character's son who's so pro black and anti- cac he might as well post on thecoli. This movie is just the rehashed tale of Booker T vs Dubois; yall educated heads know what I'm talking about. Both sides have strong arguments. Its a "black" Forest Gump where the lead is privy to inside knowledge of what White leadership thinks of Negroes and how he attempts to protect his family according.

The fact that as a black man dude can't really explain why he doesn't like it without using the n word and how he was silent on Django reveals how he really feels. He's upset he didnt get cast in a film where every Black actor in hollywood got to eat :lupe: I mean David Banner's is in it, I'd be mad too.

I mean really though, had you taken out "The Butler" out the article, I wouldve thought Harry was talking about Django. Django is about a Black man gaining freedom and repairing his family with the help of a the white man; around here that's a White liberal's wet dream. The final "villain" of Django is the fukking house c00n or at least that the person our titular hero decides to focus his vengeance:what: on...a good hour of the film's dialogue is nothing but Leo da gawd saying blacks = violent stupid animals who are likely to go on a rapture if set fre-:lupe: .... but "The Butler's the problem:shaq2:

I didn't see django either.....:pacspit:

Gang violence...
i havent seen any lee daniels flick longer than a few minutes, but he comes off as a weirdo who loves movies about stereotypical black people. his stuff is not for me, and i commend this actor for sacrificing opportunities by rejecting stuff like this. his reading of the script seems to confirm what i suspect about lee daniels, but that being said, i supoort lee's right to do this stuff, even if i will never watch it.

lee daniels and tyler perry, two dudes i dont deal with

Red Tails got shytty reviews.

Fruitvale was an independent movie that got rave reviews, including Best First film at Cannes and the Best Jury and Best Audience Award at Cannes. It's made 14M which is solid for it's small release of about 1000 theaters.

42 made almost 100M, it's 27M opening weekend was the best opening weekend for a baseball movie ever.
