Mayne...i'm lightweight trippin' off Phife being gone.
It's like...there ain't gonna be no more Tribe.
(I know I know, there wasn't gonna be a Tribe anyway seems like.)
But it's got me thinking...most groups (especially got me thinking of duos) where one member is the essence of the group. And a lot of times, they don't get the same respect. I mean - Q-Tip without Phife is a lot of stuff...be he ain't the same Tip that he is with Phife.
And I don't know if he can still be that now that Phife is gone.
Others:
- Havoc. Prodigy is a monster and all of that, but wouldn't most rather have a Mobb Deep album than a P solo?
- Kurupt. The Kingpin. The server of 2,000 MCs. But he's different without Daz next to him.
Daz is Tha Dogg Pound.
- Pimp C. Bun is sick. Might be one of the most underrated yet venerated rappers.
But I don't care to hear any of his solo chit. Pimp was the Flavor - the curator of UGK,
and that is devastating.
- 3 Stacks. Big Boi is the marketable, relatable one of Outkast. We all know that.
Big Boi can make all the solo albums he wants, but it ain't 'Kast chit without Dre.
- PMD. I got much respect for Erick, but PMD was the "businessman" of the group that had
all their albums named after "business". And he was never wack, or anything...
- DMC. Run was the Flash of the group - but D was the gruffness (before the voice loss of course).
And his is the case that most feels like what the situation is with Tribe to me at this moment.
What is it gonna be like for these entities when "the other one" dies?
