Announced across Xbox social channels, Microsoft and Obsidian revealed that The Outer Worlds 2 will no longer be $79.99 at launch, returning to the current industry standard of $69.99.

"We're focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions," an Xbox spokesperson explained in a statement to Windows Central.

If you've already pre-ordered The Outer Worlds 2 at the $79.99 price point, you will have to grab refunds at the point of purchase if you've already paid up. Microsoft says some retailers will light up with refunds today, but some will start accepting refunds from tomorrow. Then, you can pre-order again at the new $69.99 price tier.

I still think this game should be $50/60 but they were buggin trying to sell it at $80

they said they're keeping all their "full priced holiday releases" at $70. guess they're not going for $80 games yet

Thats like the least surprising thing ever, COD is one of the biggest full priced game releases every year…vs outer worlds
A yearly release for 80 vs a sequel to a game from 5 years ago.. I’d happily pay 80 for outer worlds 2 and I’m not even the biggest fan of that game it’s cool or whatever

A yearly release with a massive casual audience that pretty much has it on auto-pay. A lot of people buying COD will probably be the only purchase they make for the year

Same reason Nintendo can “get away with it” for Mario Kart, cause of the casual crowd who aren’t going to buy much else
