In for the fukkkery. Let's get some US politicians in on this
Of course they are... probably somewhere in the Caribbean :patrice:

I think a combination of FACTA and the risk of imprisonment has cut down on the practice. These companies can also be used for legitimate uses with applicable taxes paid which is important to remember although reading about some of these characters they seem dirty as all f'ck. Obviously case by case but a lot of times strategic investment and the help of accountants you can virtually pay no tax in the US.

In my experience people who live overseas are generally well connected financially and politically.

I know FACTA made life hell for me when I was overseas they were just rolling it out at the time and a lot of banks would't open an account for me but there are ways around everything. It's something I think about now and I have to look into extensively even if my wife is an EU citizen idk what the implication will be for me. Not really worried about taxes but having a local bank account is crucial. Crazy stuff when you think about it. I'd read an article awhile back and it may have been posted here where a woman in Paris gave up her US citizenship because she was so frustrated. I also know a lot of companies aren't interested in hiring Americans because the visas and facta issue aren't worth it but like anything in life it's a case by case basis.

What's so funny? I lived in Stuttgart before the USA...why are you perturbed about the history of a man's dead relative?

In regards to Mossack's father I just think it's a humorous tour de force of history bundled into a single man. "His father was a member of the Waffen-SS during World War II, before working for the US government, and ending up in Panama working for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), spying on Communist Cuba" that's some really crazy shyt but I find spy stories and the like fascinating. The SS committed some pretty heinous war crimes but I judge the man by the man his descendants are free of shame.

I figure because nobody major that a US citizen is named.... yet...:yeshrug:

Quite possible, journalism is a business too. Still, even the average American and European journalist wouldnt mind feeding off of anything negative related to Putin. Yet, they're hesitant. Again though, its early and they're probably reviewing the leaks to verify how credible the data is. Plus Monday is encroaching and grasping a story at the beginning of a work week probably has more oomph than the random leak during a weekend. Time will tell.
