Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
So my motherboard died, and now I found out that if you replace the motherboard on a HP computer then your copy of Windows is no longer valid unless you buy an exact replacement.

The only exact replacement I can find is $200 for the most basic board ever:beli:

They are selling entire new computers with the same i5 I have for $200. So I'm just gonna buy the new PC.

Now I'm gonna have an extra i5 CPU. Is there any web site I can easily sell or trade it at? Don't want to go through the trouble of eBay or Craigslist.

Is it a gaming PC, or just your regular desktop for the net?

If it's the latter cop the motherboard and just throw Ubuntu on it.

First off I got this:

But you might say, that's just a normal 27" monitor Cig? What's the big deal?

Well, let's look at it closer

But, how are you gonna run a game when you gotta push over 14 million pixels?

Well....

:wow:

Now to set this up and play at this outrageous resolution :wow:

You gonna have the first self aware PC on the coli.

I'm not sure WTF is going on brehs...

So I go to play a little GTA today and the NVIDIA display driver keeps crashing...It's not a CTD or BSOD...The driver stops, screens go black and then the driver restarts...

Tried 2K and Witcher 3 I get the same error so its not game specific but only seems to occur when trying to play a game...

Updated the graphics drivers but no bueno...

I'm on the bytch right now typing with no issues and can watch videos to...

Ran memtest and chkdsk on my drives all good...

When trying to run furmark it crashes immediately...

I see no artifacting and none of the usual shyt you get when the GPU kicks the bucket...

but its gotta be either the GPU or PSU...:francis:

Going to have to run down to microcenter tomorrow and buy a new PSU to test...

Did you try completely removing the Nvidia driver then doing a clean install?

Yea I ran driver sweeper in safe mode and did a clean install...

Same error...:francis:

Looks like the GPU can't handle a full load which explains why furmark and games immediately crash...Not sure if the GPU is the culprit though or the PSU is malfunctioning and not kicking out enough juice...

Regular desktop, what's Ubuntu?

So I bought the new PC get it home and find out HP done used some proprietary motherboard/psu combo that's unupgradable, now I can't put my PSU and GPU in it :beli:

fukk HP. Why do they make it so hard to upgrade/repair these shyts.

Don't know what I'm gonna do now:snoop:

Free linux based OS.

My fathers computer died, so I used an old 580, got him a MB, PSU & CPU, used the old ram from the other computer and put together something much faster than what he had for $200 with Ubuntu on it.

He's used it for 4 months now with no complaints.

You should have known better. Look for a 2nd or 3rd gen core i5 refurb on newegg and keep it moving if you want to stay cheap.

I've seen a few 3rd gen i5 builds go for about $200 with 8gb ram.

Edit: since this isn't a gaming build the form factor shouldn't be an issue. This is a SFF (BTX I believe) with a 3470. Add another 4GB RAM for about $10 or use your old parts to get the build you want and throw the old shyt you have in the trash. Sounds like you won't want to deal with the potential learning curve with Ubuntu, but if you do decide to jump Ubuntu or Ubuntu Mate are the best distros to start off with because they hold your hand through a lot of the things people need to do to get up and running.

HP COMPAQ 6300 PRO SFF Desktop PC - Intel Quad Core i5 3.2Ghz (3470) - 4GB RAM - 250GB HDD - DVD-ROM - Gigabit Ethernet - Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed - KB/Mouse Included-Newegg.com
