No sense in going any lower right now. All those parts are the best bang for buck and leaves you with a nice core for a few years to come.

He doesn't want a PS4. He wants a gaming PC
Read my last post. You don't know wtf you're talking about. My build will last year's.

Lol I have a i5 6500 and gtx 970. Can run any game at 1440 ultra. You can definitely recommend less
A GTX 970 is a bad buy right now over a 1060. Unless you can grab a new 970 for $100...which you can't. A new 1060 can be purchased for $1 more than what the GTX 970 goes for.

The only thing I would possibly consideris going with a 1TB or 2TB hdd or sshd and then cloning over the installation to a larger SSD in the near future. The problem with that is that any 1TB+ SSD is still pretty expensive right now.

You simply are just justifying your purchases. You won't win any scenario when you factor in bang for budget on my list of parts.

If you want to save a little bit.

Go with the CM Devastator combo and the Cooler Master T2 heatsink.

That should knock out about $50 right there.

I'm not justifying anything. I'm saying if he only has a 1080p monitor he does NOT need a 1060 and i5 6600 to get max on 1080 resolution

Every PC gamer should aim for the best value for their dollar. He wants to stick with this PC as long as possible and there is no reason to go with an older generation card as DX12 will become the norm soon enough. The RX 480 is also an interesting option, but a little more expensive than the GTX 1060.

He can try to squeeze a bit and get the costs down, but at sub $900 with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, unlocked CPU, VR ready-6GB GPU, 16GB RAM, 240GB SSD I think he is doing damn good.
