I bought the 680 this year and couldn't be fukking happier. Are people seriously spending upwards on 1000 on a video card? :mindblown:

Unless your doing intense graphical manipulations, is it really necessary for the average consumer to purchase these right now?

It's a very niche market they target with the 1K cards. They def aren't targeted for the average consumer. You ain't maxing out anything meaningful with a single 680 @ 1440P or 5760x1080 @ 60 fps though. Those are the resolutions most people that have 1K or more worth of GPU's are playing at.

I got a 75% off (steam) coupon for Total War Shogun 2 if anyone wants it

I also got one if anyone needs it.

That happened a lot to me with my Evga GTX 560 Ti back when I had Windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 8 and picked up a GTX 670 and haven't seen that issue since. I gave the 560 Ti to my brother and he said he gets that issue from time to time. He's running Windows 7.

so how's the performance with Metro: Last Light? I'm hearing it's pretty beasty to 'max out'

I wouldn't say its too bad as its a lot better than Metro 2033 was at its time. It depends on ones definition of "maxed out" and what resolution. For instance at 1440p if you set the game to 4x SSAA you are rendering the game at 5120x2880 which is then downsampled. That's 14-15 million pixels vs the 3.68 million 1440p sports. It's the same issue with 1080P. With 4X SSAA @ 1080P you are rendering the game at 3840x2160 aka 4K.\

Now taking SSAA out of the equation or just running it at 1x or FXAA is doable. I myself get 60FPS with everything maxed out and 2x SSAA(1440p) indoors.(Haven't gotten outdoors yet.) 4x SSAA is about 30-40 fps with dual titans, indoors :heh:

AMD users need to wait for driver optimizations. You have 460's beating out 7870s at the moment, but they give you free games though :pachaha:
