I think u would...that's what I'm getting from what was said...would u pick the R9 280x over the hd7970?..or are the basically the same shyt?..cause I'm seeing the 7970 for about 50 bucks cheaper and I'm just tryna make the choice before the end of the night..

The 280X is a rebranded 7970GHz edition (with a little performance tweak, no much), so it's better than a regular 7970. The 280X goes for about $299, and 7970GHz editions are about $300-350 right now from what I saw. So it's a good deal in my opinion.

You would have to buy special monitors wouldn't you? Or am I reading that wrong?

yep. they're gonna have a DIY kit, but I guess so far that kit only works with one monitor. the DIY kit will be this year, with other OEM versions starting next year. hopefully eventually they can come up with some kind of universal DIY kit, but I'm not holding my breath

it is brand new tech, and it will be expensive and limited at first (think of when blu ray players first dropped). but it is a BIG step, and probably will be the standard for pc gaming in the future. I'm not gonna run out and buy one, but I will mos def be keeping my eye on it

So like I said, NVIDIA always brings the performance but the problem is the price. Your argument is sound though, it will probably be the standard soon enough. Probably be ready by the time I have to build a new rig.

What did you think of those 290X/780 performance comparisons released today?

Aight..so basically I should just pay the 50 bucks extra and get the 280x over the 7970..

There all the same card breh, stop over thinking it. A 7970 @ 1000 mhz = 280X = 7970ghz. It'll vary a 2-3 frames depending on which version of the cards you go with and how much they are overclocked out the box. I'd go with the one that runs quieter and lower temps.

it's really something outside of "performance". and yeah, it's not free

did they release some more benchmarks for the 290x today? I didn't see them, but a new challenger also entered the ring today to further complicate things

Yup.

People over on the subreddits are not impressed with Nvidia and the new 780, in terms of possible price vs performance. It's going to slot somewhere between 780 and titan, but what happens with the prices? Especially if you got a card that can possibly outdo the titan for much less than an old 780 costs. We'll see next week.

Nvidia stated on stage that the 780 TI is the best GPU ever built so I doubt it will sit between the 780 and Titan. There's simply no space for it to go between a 780 and Titan since those cards are within ~10% of each other. Titan will probably be EOL soon and the 780 TI takes the spot near the 780s current price point and the 780 will get a price drop. A regular ol 780 can outdo a Titan if overclocked slightly. A 780 Classified/Lightning does so out the box.

Probably in terms of RAM it will. You expect it to be 6 GB?

interesting. I'm kinda weary of 'unofficial' benchmarks though (I just hate the feeling of being fooled)

I'm not sure what the peeps on reddit could know about the 780ti's price or performance, outside of pure speculation. that is obviously the question though. and how it could affect the prices of the 780 and Titan. have we had any indication that the 290x will cost "much less" than the 780 ($650)?

I post in /r/Games (and other subreddits) with the same name btw

I just hope both release information soon. I'm on the green team right now, and I don't mind staying but there needs to be a match of performance and price that compares.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a $500-650 card but I'm waiting to see the deal from both. Leaning heavy to going with AMD this go around, especially since I already have a 8350 8-core.
