Try setting your CPU voltage core to 1.3V. I'd also reseat the heatsink with a better paste. AC5 isn't top dog these days anymore. Make sure you use 100% rubbing alcohol to clean the paste from the CPU and the heatsink. MX-4 works great. Be sure to use the pea method when applying paste too.
My CPU voltage was set to Auto. Honestly only since that one time did my PC restart itself it never did it again and plus lots of other guides online say they've overclocked this CPU at 4.2GHZ+ using the stock CPU and cooler.

Man Idk something must be wrong with my setup.

My rig was just built less than 3 weeks ago and my CPU temp is showing 79C on HWmonitor while playing Far Cry 3. I'm using an aftermarket cooler from my old rig from back in 08 with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

The fans seem to be running and I cleaned them prior to putting it in. Idling though my temps are in the 30-40's. Once the other day the PC just restarted on me while playing Far cry 3 but my CPU was OC'd to like 4.2ghz from stock 3.6GHZ.

It's an FX4100 AMD CPU and I read about how people got their stock CPU and Fan up to 4.6GHZ but mines isn't stable and I tried messing with the voltages and I just left it alone at 4.2 since I was satisfied with my performance. I know I put the thermal paste on but IDK if the fan is maybe old and doesn't perform as good as the stock fan?

Far Cry 3 beasts my cpu too. I think I got up to 74c

I believe BullDozer just runs hot ass shyt @ stock. Overclocking it just adds on to it.

Well before I went out and put the other cooler on my CPU I first used some cheap sh1t(Dynex) I had laying around and my IDLE temps were like 55-60+ !:merchant:

After the AS5 it dropped to 30-40c idle so I considered it a win.

:russ:

Yeah, 55-60 idle temps is :whew:

Idle temps don't usually mean anything though, load temps are what matter. Try running a stress test program like Linx, IBT, or P95 to figure out what your cooling system can handle.

The last test I did on p95 it went up to I think 79c on a I think blend testor small fft or something.

Never let the CPU voltage to auto. That CPU should hit 4.2GHz at around 1.2V to 1.3, the later being an absolutely max for that clock.

So... now that I have a PC that's capable of running games, do I just make a Steam account and eat? :eat:

Basically. Also check out Greenmangaming.com if you looking to cop a few titles as they have crazy sales there like steam. I bought Arkham City GOTY for $4.79 the other day.
