I've not heard anything independently about the product versions in Threshold. But I do know about a few changes that Microsoft is planning for what my sources have described as "the next version of Windows," which I assume is Threshold. (Though to be clear, they never used this name.) And they're big news.

They are...

Metro apps running in windows on the desktop. As you can today with third-party utilities such as ModernMix, the next version of Windows will let users optionally run Metro apps in floating windows on the desktop.

Start menu. After bringing back the Start button in Windows 8.1, Microsoft will take the next logical step in the next Windows version and make the Start menu available as an option. It's possible this will appear only on those product versions that support the desktop.

There's more coming, and some things still up in the air of course, but I need to verify them with others. In the meantime, I felt this was big enough to get it out there. When you combine this information with Mary Jo's SKU info, you can see that Microsoft is, if not moving forward per se, at least continuing to do the right thing and responding to complaints. And given the changes in the groups responsible for Windows, this wasn't a given at all. It's a good sign.

I'll remain skeptical.:patrice:

i just moved into a new place.
i'm on the second floor of a nice sized house.

chick who lives below me asked if she could get my wifi password.
she said she would be using it for her phone...mostly spotify and that she would pay half my internet bill.

i told her i don't know what the password is and i would have to go into my router settings so i can play it off like i don't know.

what do you guys think?
is it worth sharing my connection to get half off my internet bill?

How big is the internet bill? If it's cheap, then just say you don't feel comfortable doing that because you did it once and somebody hacked into your shyt. Not that you don't trust her, but that you made a promise to yourself to never do that again. Or some bullshyt.

If the bill is substantial (like $75 a month or something), I'd consider it. Do it for one month and check what she's doing. If she's streaming a bunch of video shyt (which I suspect she might), bushes the following month. If not, then keep making her pay half. Also, monitor how many devices are coming through the router. If there are more than like 2 or 3 or something, bushes the following month (or just cut them off with your router). It'll get awkward if you have to tell her that you need to stop doing the sharing. You'll have to make something up about data usage limits or your job or something. Could be strange...

:ld:

Depends...

If she's some computer illiterate broad you might not have shyt to worry about and she really only be messing wtih Spotify.

If she's playing dumb and is some world class internet hacker then...

Another idea. limit the spread of the your router and/or how many mbps she can use. You can throttle her

Or if you don't want to do it at all, you can say that you looked over your contract and you're limited to X GB a month and you probably will use that, so you can't really share your internet...sorry

turn off UPNP, you can block certain sites that you think she might access that you know is "infect-a-noobie" zone (shes only using spotify anyway right?), make sure her guest network is isolated.

theres probably more settings that i dont know of, you can check look around/google
